Playback Error, "Unable to tune channel (no parts)"

Hello,

In need of some help, I am at a total loss on this. I am running Plex Version 1.8.4.4249. My system has two tuners in it, both on the approved list. One WinTVQuad PCI and one HDHomeRun Connect. Often times, I am getting the error show below. I have tried isolating the issue by removing overlapping channels from the lineup. IE: if the WinTVQuad has channel 4.1 enabled, it is not enabled on the HDHomerun Connect. Regardless of what I change, this error keeps popping up and it happens across ALL channels at different times. It is also causing the DVR to NOT record shows.

During these times NO other tuners are in use. Its like the system thinks all its tuners are busy.

I would REALLY like this to work…

I am seeing the same issue. Although I only have the HDHomeRun Connect device. Still…same problem. Any ideas anyone?

Same thing - I just changed internet yesterday so I thought it was that, but I have shows that didn’t record prior to that. I’ve tried rebooting the HD Homerun as well as the server. Same results…

In my experience using live tv on the web causes this.

I’m having the same issue. Running an HDHomeRun Extend and Plex is running on my Synology RS815+. If I switch to another channel, playback works (barring freezes) then I can go back to the first channel that was reporting the error.

I’ve seen that recently too… I’ve also had the same issue when trying to record too. I just switched to a new server, so I thought that was related somehow, but it sounds like others are getting it too.

I’m also getting the same issue frequently. I’m using a Hauppauge WinTV-dual HD, also having issues with the odd show just not recording, the error being along the lines of “an unknown error occurred”.

I have this as well on both the WinTV-dual HD and xbox usb tuner (connecting to PC) I don’t have a solid solution, but I take the steps below which seems to get it going again.

  1. Transcoder settings:
Change all trans-coding options (quality, x264 preset, and max simultaneous transcodes), save, then change them back to your preferred settings, save.
  2. Live TV & DVR Settings:
Disable all enabled channels, save, Enable all or enable channel of choice (I only enable one at a time), save
  3. Go to Programming Guide, start desired channel.
I sometimes get a prompt to cancel some channels that claim to be recording or streaming, which I cancel then again choose the channel to stream.

Hope this helps somebody. It was driving me nuts not being able to see my Hawks loose this past weekend!

The same is happening to me too. Really trying to cut my DirecTV cord, but this is hindering it.
This morning I looked at my Recording Schedule and noticed that one show was showing “Aborted.” When I try to tune to it via the Web browser, it gave me the Unable to tune channel (no parts) error message. I can tune to and watch other channels live with no issue. I can use the HD HomeRun app on my phone and tune to the channel that is giving me the error too.
I forced a download of the EPG and tried again. This time I got Unable to tune channel (timed out). After waiting a few seconds and trying again I got Unable to rune channel (no activity).
After a reboot of my PMS the channel tunes in with no problem. It also started recording the episode too. I do not want to have to reboot my PMS daily if I don’t have too.

PMS Version 1.9.0.4252 running on Ubunutu Server 17.04
Using Chrome 61 but also seeing the issues on my Amazon Fire TV.
My PMS is in VMware (not sure if this has any impact or not.) 16 GB RAM and 4 vCPU’s assigned. My library storage is via a MFS mount point to my NAS across a 1 GB copper Ethernet.

Any suggestions or comments?

Same problem here. WinTVDualHD.

I have error Playback Error, "Unable to tune channel " with European version of HDHomeRun.
how to resolve?

Same issue here!

Just got it again, with recordings failing. Can’t tune to live tv, but I can tune to it just fine with the hdhomerun app. Another channel is recording and can play back video just fine. Looks like plex isn’t going to work as an OTA DVR for me. Working 90% of the time just isn’t convenient.

So it looks like there hasnt been any update to this thread in a couple weeks but I figured I would post here as well to see if anyone has had any traction. I get the no parts error when trying to tune to 9.1 (ABC) via plex web, on my ios I get live recording failed, unable to start session. I am using an HDhomerun Extend. I just tried their app and it tuned into that channel without any issue so I know its not the tuner. All other channels work just fine. Below is from the log file if that helps at all:

I have the same issue periodically as well with my WinTV-HVR-2250 on Ubuntu with latest server and client versions.

I have the same issues, this is extremely frustrating. Some channels always return this error and never work. For other channels who do work, I have to restart my server nearly every day for it to come back.

Will anyone from Plex see this and help to fix the issue?

I am having a similar issue. I have 2 Prime Tuners and 1 Connect. Lately the Connect has stopped working with Plex. It will not tune or record through Plex. All tuners work through the View and other apps still.

So does anyone have any idea here? People keep posting they have the issue but no input on what may actually be the issue.

FYI: a related thread with the same problem has a few debugging steps that may be of use: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/290124/can-not-get-a-certain-channel-to-watch-or-record

Still no solution though. For me, a restart of Plex server temporarily fixes the issue, but then it returns within a day – at least for my daily recurring recording.

Same problem here. the channel was working fine last night. now I get “Unable to tune channel (No parts)”

[UPDATE] the channel works fine on another plex server
