All media libraries populated except one...and a question about "upgrading libraries"

Server Version#: 1.41

So I had to re-link all my media to a a new installation of PMS on my QNAP NAS.

All libraries linked predictably (and pretty well), except for my “TV Specials” library. It’s showing empty in spite of several titles living in that folder, and named correctly (and the same as before).

I have tried re-linking and scanning repeatedly, but it’s still showing empty. Any ideas?

Also, for my TV libraries I’m being prompted to “upgrade” my library to use different metadata sources. However, those sources aren’t populating information as well as the old ones (it’s not showing episode titles–or in the case of my large Looney Tunes library–cartoon titles).

Can I just stick with the old ones? How do I make the “Library Upgrade Required” prompt go away?

Thanks!

What do you consider specials?
Stuff that can be found listed on TheTVDB, in the Specials season of TV shows? Or mainly unlisted stuff?

What type of library did you create, or rather: which agent is currently selected for your specials library?

Have you considered to revise your approach to specials and rather add unlisted things as local extras? https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-tv-show-trailers-and-extras/

The specials folder is mainly old Charlie Brown and Dr. Seuss titles that have worked in previous installations.

As with those I used TVDB for the meta data, but the titles aren’t populating this time.

Both my TV Series and TV Specials libraries are ‘TV’ libraries in Plex parlance, and using TVDB to populate metadata.

Both libraries are now prompting me that an upgrade is required, but when I do that it goes to a source that give me incomplete metadata, so I would like them to stay as is.

That is the old, deprecated metadata agent.
That’s why you see the “upgrade libraries” message.

That’s not true. You just need to understand how these work.
Matched with the new agent:

Edit the library, go to the Advanced tab and set Episode Ordering to “TheTVDB (Aired)”.
This will be the default. Then you can change that on a per-show basis for those shows which need it. (like e.g. setting “DVD-Ordering” for Firefly  )

What kind of “titles”?
Are they present on either TheMovieDB.org or TheTVDB.com?
As Series or as Movies?

I’m not seeing choices as you describe (for example there’s no “The TVDB (Aired)” in my choices. In any case, the “Upgrade” option has given me results like this, which are a downgrade from the “legacy” choices.

The Charlie Brown and Dr. Seuss titles are both the original CBS TV specials, all of which populated correctly before I had to set things up again. Both on TVDB.

They can’t be a downgrade, if they allow you to have the results you seek.
See my screenshot above. It was made with the new metadata agent.

OK. I’m using the new agents, and it’s still giving me LESS metadata. See the screenshot above. I guess I’ll go back to the legacy choices for now.

Can we troubleshoot your issue? Once you upgrade your library have you refreshed the metadata at the show level for Looney Tunes? How are your files named? Odds are its something that should be easily fixed.

Usage of the legacy agents is going to be short term. They have already started removing it from some servers (aka NVIDIA Shield) removing it from the remaining is just a matter of time.

I did a refresh at the show level (using the Plex Series agent and the Plex TV Series scanner), and have the same result as the screen shot above. Here is the file hierarchy (attached screen shot).

Thanks for the reply…if the legacy agents are going away I’d love to figure this out.

You need to make that change at the library level,

So I just added 10 of your files to my demo library:

What throws me off is you dont have any S1936 files in your screenshot but Plex has 8 listed for you.
Can you check if these match:

Confirmed your settings, no joy. Rescanned, no difference.

Did the Plex Dance (deleted the Looney Tunes folder, reloaded it, and rescanned) and it seems to be populating the right way. Will know more in the morning.

Learned lots, but thanks for getting me on the right track.

It’s obvious that there have been some under-the-hood changes in TVDB and the various agents, as they seem to have become very picky about file names. Looney Tunes populated correctly, but I then had issues with the Pink Panther and Schoolhouse Rock libraries that I had never had, and several episodes had changed seasons and even titles in the case of SR. And the series titles might have even changed, as I had to go in and change a lot of filenames (fortunately most of them were global renames and fairly easily done). Things started to work as expected after this.

A few others have changed as well (Charlie Brown, Dr. Seuss, etc). I have gotten those to index but no artwork as yet. Will keep working on it.

Thank you!
