Should I "upgrade" my libraries?

EDIT

My solid advice is go in eyes open, many users are reporting that there is a ton of work to do after the “upgrade” including myself. DO NOT UPGRADE unless you are ready for this.

So my libraries are in a really good place, I’m extremely happy with everything and have very few issues.

Today this popped up. My question is, what do i risk by making the leap, I’ve quite meticulously over the years matched and fixed matches of quite a lot of stuff so feel like this has the potential to have me spending considerable effort fixing things again. What’s been your experience doing the “upgrade”?

Before you upgrade your existing library, try creating a new library using the new agent. Give the library a different name, but point it to the same files as the existing one. That way, you can see how it does. If it appears there’s too much work to do, just delete the new library and keep using the old one.

so for kicks i decide to upgrade a less used library and of course it updated the metadata on a different library, good sign.

hmm gonna leave my main libraries be for the moment.

@beckfield that is actually a pretty good idea.

i wish i thought of that before i decided to upgrade my library lol

I’m curious too. I had already updated my main movie library and it’s fine. I updated TV, it sems fine. Only one left is a adult film library with tons of custom tagging due to nothing matching properly on the old scanner. Not sure I should try that one. In theory locked fields shouldn’t be effected, but can I trust it after the debacle that’s happening to my music library and the supposed customs that you could do?

I attempted to upgraded my anime lib for a test - however it started to scan my tv series instead…
there are some fun results so you need to doublecheck afterwards, and some of them i don’t really get in my kids folder there is a show called “lille nørd” - however none of the posters from normal sources seems to be used - or it only grabs the first one?

tvdb:

in this case the best cover is not something that can be choosen. so it dosnt load it all ? or how does it work. i reverted for now at least

The problem is this not an UPGRADE (Plex should check the meaning of this world in the software world). It will trash your old metadata and it will start from scratch, so all the time matching the correct media was now wasted and you have to do it again because for sure the new agent will fail to correctly match all your media.

Make sure you make a backup before doing anything. Because you might end up as frustrated as I was when I had to manually fix a couple of hundred of wrong matched. And then the added-date was screwed up and plenty of movies showed up as if I just added to the library.

With 1700 movies and 27500 total TV episodes I won’t do this.

This is not really new I think, the difference it is now trying to force you to the “new” agent.

I decided not to do it now, however, now I keep getting the yellow notification to upgrade my libraries…

The main reason I do not is due to the reason I download subtitles with the old agent still which is a feature I would like to keep for now. without using third party solutions to do so.

do not do this, I updated my one and now it’s all messed up.
Before I listed my movies by critic rating and with IMDB, now it’s all wrong IMDB disappeared I have a mix with IMDB and TMDB but the first movie in the rating isn’t right anymore.

How to go back to normal? I want my IMDB rating list back again

this is the example now is like that

before my list was according this ratings:

What’s going on, how to go back to previous and working one???

  1. Don’t Panic!
  2. Edit the library (… > Manage Library > Edit…)
  3. go to the Advanced tab
  4. set Rating Source to IMDb

You might need to refresh the library’s metadata to get the IMDb ratings instead of the current values.

Oh great so the other libraries started updating themselves now my collections are empty again.

Argh upgrade my a**

Shouldn’t have touched anything.

Thanks Tom, everyone who has done this, better quickly go to each manage library then edit, advance, and then choose at scanner, Plex movie scanner instead of plex movie ( which is this crap of turbo thing) and for tv show choose do the same and choose TV series scanner instead of Plex tv series. if can do that before it starts youll be safe again. after done all that youll see in activity a popup upgrade libraries… dont upgrade!

thanks, all back to normal now

talked to early, why now the movie posters

are horizontal and not vertical anymore?

I received an error when I attempted to use the “Upgrade Libraries” option. It said something about not being able to upgrade some libraries. How can I tell which libraries have been upgraded?

What is the new Movie agent and new TV agent?

You can tell by looking at the properties of your library, on the “Advanced” tab.
If you see “Plex Movie” for both Scanner and Agent in a movie library, you are on the new agent for movies.
If you see “Plex TV Series” for both Scanner and Agent in a TV show library, you are on the new agent for TV shows.

The reason for this prompt appearing now is that the old agents won’t stay around forever.

And yes, if you have manually fixed match and edited metadata of your files, you will have more work ahead to get the library back into shape.

Anime: if you name them as regular tv shows and use either TheTVDB or TheMovieDB as reference, there are no bigger issues to expect.
If you however have used one of the 3rd-party Anime scanners and 3rd-party anime metadata agents, you will have to do some major filename and organization fixing – if you decide to do the conversion.
[The new TV show agent allows for local extras for tv shows. This solves quite a few issues which people had with the infamous “season 00”.]

If you however have already used the recommended naming schemas and folder organization, there are few reasons to not do the conversion.
