All of the folders I’ve created with content have dissapeared from plex on both the tv and laptop. I did not change any names or make any adjustments to anything. The hard drive is still attached to the same port. I’ve tried restarting my computer to no avail. I’m kind of really stupid and don’t know what do with the directory instructions I find in forums such as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server.
Does your content re-appear in the Plex library if you Scan library files (from the library context menu)?
If you’re using Plex with an external drive (NAS / direct attached device, e.g. via USB) and that drive is e.g. not spinning up fast enough when Plex tried an automatic / scheduled library scan, this can result in Plex considering the file / drive is gone. If that happens, Plex will move those videos into its „trash“… you usually can recognize this by the trash can on top of the respective posters.
However… if you have configured Plex to Empty trash after library updates in Settings > Server > Library, you will loose all library records that Plex could no longer find during a scan. This is why I always disable Empty trash after library updates when dealing with external drives…
