I am unclear about what you mean with this.
You don’t add folders to drive letters.
I seems like Plex is creating/managing pointers to existing resources. Which is cool because it is non destructive to our content. So, I’m doing a bad job of explaining the process that I performed before the relationship between Plex and my content sunk in. (If I’m correct). Let me try a step by step of my actions.
- Read a thread on the forum about isolating my live tv recoded movies away from my movies content by creating a folder for just the recorded movies because they will not store in the recorded TV folder/Library.
- So I went to manage library (Movies)
- selected edit library from the drop down
- selected add folders and entered V:\Recorded Movies and clicked save changes. The folder I entered did not exist. (I thought it would create it) There was no error telling me that I entered a non-existent folder.
- I returned to the movie library to review if I could see the new folder that I thought I had “Created” in the movie library. That is when the red trash cans appeared on all content in the Movie library.
- I added the folder manually from file explorer after I had added the folder in Plex, but that did not seem to help.
- I have done an edit on one of the movies as you suggested and clicked info. There is only on on path shown and it is the correct path. Shown below
V:\2 Guns (2013)\2.Guns.2013.720p.BluRay.x264.YIFY.mp4
If I am understanding how Plex operated with existing content. The point I was trying to make was that Plex should have checked to see if the folder existed. It did not and I received no error message. This takes 4 lines of code tops that includes an “ifexists” statement of some kind. Sorry, My 50 years of software development and deployment background would say this is pretty basic stuff but my staff has overlooked it more than I want to admit. OK, I admit I just did it too on a library syncing program I developed to help keep this library synced on all 3 servers, but I caught it in testing.
Enough!!! Did this help?
I fixed it. I removed and re-added the library.
