I am running two servers, one from my NAS and the other from my Windows PC. I “upgraded” to the Plex scanner and agent about three weeks ago without any trouble, but this weekend, my largest TV collection, RiffTrax, is completely unmatched from the TVDB. All the episodes just show the episode numbers, no titles. Doing the “Plex dance” would be a massive undertaking, as this collection includes more than 700 items. Any ideas?
P.S. I understand that for now, I can revert to using one of the other scanner / agent systems, but I fear the same problem when those are eventually made obsolete.
Huh, I have a small collection of Rifftrax, but only the movies themselves, not any of the LIVE or Shorts. I didn’t know that there was a “TV series” entry for it.
Well, did it get unmatched? Since there does appear to still be a TV Series entry for it at TheTVDB, I assume plex ought to match to it still. When yo go to the main show level, when you click the triple dot option, do you see the option to Match or to Fix Match…? The first option means it is not matched, the second option means it is matched, but perhaps it is not matched to the correct TVDB item.
Next, when you click the pencil icon, go to Advanced. What sort order are you using for Episode Ordering? If you didn’t change it, it uses the library’s own default option, which is TMDB. Try changing it to use TheTVDB (Aired) just in case.
Lastly, if it is matched, do your episode numbers match that of TheTVDB?
Thank you for your help. The entry in my Plex library said the entries were still matched, but only episode numbers showed up. I did the unmatch / rematch thing to no avail. As of now, I’ve just reverted to using the older scanner and agent.
I did have episode numbering set to the default, so that may be the culprit. It’s just very odd that this problem has never come up before–I’ve been using Plex for several years.
If it’s matched to a show, but not pulling metadata (showing episode numbers only), then either your numbers are off (can happen if an overhaul/change is made on the site) or they removed it (rare?). Checking TMDB, they have a Rifftrax TV Series, but it’s almost completely empty of info. There are 7 seasons, but 4 of them are empty and the other 3 have 6 or less.
If this just happened to you, I would guess that since you upgraded to the new scanner (which uses TMDB by default unless you change it) then the server removed the metadata since TMDB has none. I think you can fix this by either changing the entire library to use TVDB (aired) or changing only Rifftrax to use that.
FWIW, I have had no problems with the new scanner. Any issues people have might just be not configuring the source of metadata correctly. But if the old one works for you, that’s fine as well.
