Basically, what I’m asking for is similar to the “related albums” you might see when you have an active Tidal subscription connected to Plexamp. I thought that was cool, but it’d be nice to be able to make some of those relations myself. That way I can easily find playlists or collections I’ve already made based on the album I happen to be viewing. I especially want this for albums where perhaps the sonic similarity detection isn’t quite finding what I’m looking for. Being able to combine that with my own growing collection of playlists or collections would make organizing a big library over time that much better!
I know this feature sort of already exists on the movies side of Plex, and I think it’d be very helpful to see that feature parity on Plexamp too!
There’s already a number of suggestions addressing this. Please comment/vote in those threads in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.
None of those refer to playlists or collections at the album level, but I see the similarities. I’d need to argue to addend my feature request to theirs, or else I could be left making this same request even if theirs are fulfilled, so I’m not seeing why my request isn’t valid on its own. Thanks for the links though.
I like this suggestion. The following suggestion is to display the names of related playlists after each track on the album page, but I would prefer to display playlists related to the album tracks, or playlists that include tracks from the album, below the tracks in the album view.
Just a consideration: you don’t add albums to playlists – just tracks. That’s why there’s no suggestion mentioning identifying playlists per album.
It’s not about yours not being valid but to avoid directing votes on the same topic in multiple threads, resulting in each single one being easily dismissed.
I wouldn’t be suggesting this in the first place if I didn’t add albums to my playlists. The button is right there in Plexamp, and you can do the same with Artists, too! Maybe the reason it hasn’t been suggested before is because I’m a niche case in this regard, but I still stand by my decision to request it.
The issue is, again, that the topic is similar but NOT the same. There are lots of feature requests tagged for playlists and Plexamp but that doesn’t mean they’re all the same either.
I’m not arguing that you can’t add content from all kind of places to a playlist – artists, albums, groups of tracks, single tracks, other playlists, collections… even local extras.
The point I made was that a resulting playlist has no concept where its tracks came from… it doesn’t store that you added an album – only that 10-15 tracks that happen to belong to the same album have been added. Inside a playlist it’s just a list of tracks.
If you want to maintain the objects originally added to a set (e.g. to organize a list of best-of or concert albums), you’ll need to go with a collection instead (for which there’s already an existing suggestion to display all related collections of an item).
If you feel this must remain a separate suggestion (e.g. requiring an expensive lookup to query all playlists that contain all tracks of an album), we can certainly keep it.
Alright, I think I get what you’re saying now. In that case the track-based solution would be the one that better aligns with what I’m after.
I’ll bring my vote to that thread instead. I might revisit the idea as another way to enter “related albums” in Plexamp, but the track suggestion comes closest to solving my problem otherwise.
