I am a recent convert from Emby to Plex. I like how Plex groups the extras by the sub-folders (ex: Behind The Scenes, Deleted Scenes, etc.) But, there is still an issue with TV extras that I found after ripping all of The Office (2005) with all of the extras. I went through and named each and put each extra in the correct folder. The issue arises because there’s 188 episodes with almost every ep has an associated deleted scene. So, for me to get to any extra other than Deleted Scene (or one in a later season), I have hold the right scroll through 180 some videos until I finally get to the next group of extras.
It would be nice if we could scope extras to an episode or at least to a season. It might be an easier quick win to scope to a season since seasons already have folders and could easily add sub-folders for the extras. So, if you are on a specific season or specific episode, it would show you just those extras. The less specific the item show > season > episode, the more extras you would see and have to scroll through. The UI seems like it could easily accommodate this.
For season tier extras you can apply all the same structures you know from tv-show tier extras.
For episodes the naming is a little trickier / more restricted as Plex only supports inline extras, no subfolders.
Example:
TV Shows <- folder linked to the tv-show library
Show Name
Season 01
Show Name - s01e01 - blahblah.ext
Show Name - s01e01 - blahblah-featurette.ext
Show Name - s01e01 - blahblah-deleted1.ext
Show Name - s01e01 - blahblah-deleted2.ext
Show Name - s01e01 - blahblah-deleted3.ext
Where .ext is a placeholder for the respective file extensions.
The base name of the local extra must match the expisode name to the letter.
There’s another feature suggestion asking for an option to allow episode-level extras to be added via subfolders too in order to allow custom names/titles for those.
Ok, when I read that on the naming convention page, I thought that was just a way to do the extras if you didn’t want to create folders. I will try that. Unfortunately, I am not using Android Mobile or iOS, I am using Roku. So, if I implement either the season specific or episode specific extras, will it show up as one giant collection of extras under the show as it does now?
Crap. Not quite sure what to do then. I wouldn’t mind doing the grunt work for all three if it didn’t mean duplicating files, which for The Office itself is 1.4TB. I guess my request would be that if named correctly, ex: S01E01 - The Pilot, file being in the Deleted Scenes subfolder of The Office (2005), then when you click on the Show, it shows up in the extras under Deleted Scenes, then if you clicked on Season 1, it would also be there, and if you clicked on Episode 1, it would also show up. But, on Season 2, or any other episode, it would not show. Should I create a new post for this as it seems to be a bit different of a request?
So, I attempted a couple different things. I tried the season level extras folder and the episode specific folder with extras folder inside. I rescanned my library. I don’t see the extras when I click on a season or an episode, which is expected since I’m looking at it on a windows Plex server and Roku, which do not support this yet. But, surprisingly, it still shows the extras that I moved into season and episode folders, at the show level.
I just checked it on my phone (Android mobile) and it is not showing season or episode specific extras. So, there must be something wrong that the scan is not picking up my changes.
Ok, that did work. I am able to see the changes scoped to the season now on Android. But, since it just removes them all on the Roku (I don’t watch on my phone), I’ll just undo it until it comes to Roku and the naming convention is solidified. Hopefully, they do folders for episode local extras.
I would like to add support for completing this feature. It’s been well over a year since the TV agent/scanner came out of beta. Most of my shows contain specials at the season level, and I prefer to watch using a TV platform.
Additionally, it would be great if specials could be edited just like any other item with the ability to change poster (I know titles can now be changed within the file), etc. It would be great if specials also showed up in Continue Watching and stayed regardless of other items within that show. For example, The Office has deleted scenes for several episodes together. Previously, I would tack these on to the end of a season, so I would watch ep 1, then part of ep 101(deleted scenes), but starting 101, would eliminate ep 2 from Continue Watching. The way it works now is better, though I have to stuff all season extras on the show level, so it is quite a lot of scrolling.
One more thing…If there are extras, I’d like to see that appear above the cast, not below. At the very least let that be an option. I have some extended episodes as Extras-other that I missed because I didn’t see the extra. Though I supposes I could make the extended ep the main title and originally aired the extra.
Same here…been waiting on tv show extras for years. I don’t watch too much on my little phone screen so extras on the phone app doesn’t make sense to me before actual tv apps like the Apple TV application. Bumping but also know it’s been so long I doubt they are going to add feature parity.
