Allow having hours, mins & seconds for Date-Based Television Shows

Dunno if this is the right place but is there any way when using Date-Based Television Shows with the Personal Media Agent to have episodes split up more granularly than daily?

Currently if two episodes exist on the same day even if they have completely different titles/files plex randomly picks one of them and has the other file as a 2nd part to that one.

A workaround would be to use season/episode based and do something like S01EYYYYMMDDhhmmss but that looks horrible both in plex and in the filesystem compared to the lovely date formatting you get with the Date-Based method.

If its not possible does anyone have any other suggestions on a workaround? I would love to submit a feature request but idk if plex staff would be bothered adding something like this.

I have no idea what you’re asking for. Can you clarify?

Why not just name them SXXE01 SXXE02? It doesn’t matter if they aired on the same day. Your agent will most likely have the episodes named that way anyway, or have them both as a single episode listed on the agent’s site.

This is for personal media so there is no agent. And yes, I could name them S2021E0428030102 for example which would ensure there are no duplicate episodes. But that looks horrible.

What I want is to be able to use the date based format with a higher granularity. Or better yet just have it not group two files that are on the same day under a single title.

This seems like a far too specific request, especially for personal media, to ever be explored by the devs. I’d just name them how you proposed, because it’s probably never going to happen.

I would agree with you if it wasn’t for the amount of media this applies to. Any format which uses a non episodic release schedule like youtube for example would benefit from being able to use this over episode numbering.

That said I don’t expect it to ever happen knowing how the Plex Dev’s usually are even with highly requested features

This is an issue with the Summer Olympics right now. There are 3 or more episodes that all have the same date. When recording, Plex puts the date and “06 00 00” after the data which could be a time, but all the recordings for a given day have the same “06 00 00” time. Plex then gets confused about what file to show and starts to play only the first file of the day even though there are 3 entries in the media library. The filenames themselves have some additional text that identify them as different, but Plex ignores this extra data.
