For those of us who are using internal storage or running a shield Pro, make a simple way for us to backup our databases and then with a click of a button, restore our databases. Seems like this can be done if you use external storage because at that point you have access to your database. However, if you are on internal storage, there is no way to get to the database to back it up. If everything can be moved over, I see no reason why you can’t just click a button to backup the database (and associated files) into a zip or something. Then have a button to restore the database and reboot the server.
I think this would be really handy.
Under troubleshooting you have download logs/download database, just add backup database and restore database buttons as well.
I have seen some posts about this and even using ADB to do this but have not tried it yet. Right now my system is running fine but you never know.
It’s something that should have been there from Day 1, and it’s pretty poor that Plex haven’t addressed it.
In my case I have a Shield Pro where I have replaced the internal Hard drive with an SSD, which works great and gives me some additional protection against hard drive failure, but I have no way of regularly backing up my largish Plex database that I’m aware of?
I can see from that article I can move my database to “Internal Storage (user accessible storage location)” which I assume I can then manually backup/restore?
As per the original poster, it would still be great to have a tool within Plex to make regular backup copies of the full database (and ideally config etc as well as an option) onto an external drive or share, and an option to automate/schedule this as well. And also a reverse “tool” to restore them all if we need to.
