Now that the Nvidia Shield supports PMS, we need a way to restore a database backup to it. Else it makes anyone who wants to migrate to this new device, has to start fresh and loose all there watched status for there users.
So please vote this feature if your planing on buying or using the Nvidia Shield as a PMS.
We have no idea about the specific inner workings of the Plex server on the Shield, so it’s hard to vote for something we don’t know about. There might already be backup and restore in there, just like in all the other versions of Plex server.

where ?, all i can see is a Backup option in the PMS GUI, Restore requires access to the PMS filesystem. i am taking about a GUI option to restores a DataBase in the plex PMS GUI.
Ah, I see. Well, it may already be in there - like I said, we won’t know until we can install Plex server on the Shield. It makes no sense that a backup/restore option would not be available, since doing a repair is as easy as uninstalling the app and installing it again. I could see a cloud based save/restore being an option, using Google Drive or another file sharing site - and even using the attached storage option. But, we just have to wait.
The new Nvidia Shield looks amazing and I really want to have one.
My main concern is to have a (safe, if possible) way to migrate my current (huge) database to the nvidia device.
I currently run my PMS on a old PC (windows 7) and the performance are not very good. Especially comparing to what I can read about nvidia shield.
When I check the properties of my PLEX “local application data” folder, it shows a size of 156 Go (409,498 files and 315,660 folders). I don’t mind to take the necessary time to copy the folder to another location if needed. But I didn’t find anything in the forum explaining how and/or where to.
Or even if it is possible at all.
Has someone in the forum already tried to migrate a database from windows to nvidia shield ? Was it a success ? Thanks for your comments.
I would like of course to keep the read/unread status (for me but also for all my users), as well as all my libraries and all the other informations like the “added date” too. As I use that sometimes for filtering and ordering purpose.
@fsohet, there are many posts about this - I recommend searching and reviewing the existing threads. You can search from just today and find a plethora. There is also a dedicated NVIDIA SHIELD board for all Plex Server on the Shield issues.
