Hi. I frequently recommend Plex to family and friends and sometimes, they may want to watch something from my server from their mobile device, but have to purchase the unlock, or they will be met with frequent interruptions with ads. I’m requesting that I, as the server owner, have the ability to pre-purchase activation passes that I can grant to someone who connects to my server, without them having to make the purchase. It can be an option to include with the invitation to join the server, similar to the ability to add a friend request with the invite.
Unlocking the mobile app is one thing. This will remove the restriction to 1 minute of playback.
Ads are a different thing. There is currently no way to remove the ads, which are inserted into the movies and live TV streaming channels which are directly available on plex.tv
Ads are never inserted into media which are streamed from a personal Plex server.
So please clarify what you are requesting.
Sorry, I misspoke. I’m referring to the 1 minute playback restriction. If I invite my mom to watch from my server, I would like the ability to be able to have something like an app activation pass that I can issue that removes the restriction.
As a side note… there’s been an existing suggestion asking for an option to gift users a mobile app activation. Although it appears that suggestion never got much attention (no votes to that day).
I have a friend who uses my plex server all the time, but since his laptop broke, he’s lost his only ability to use my plex server. He has an iPad and an Android phone, but as you know, both of those apps are now “free” instead of costing the $5 the apps actually are. Can you please provide a mechanism through your website, and then through your apps, to purchase an ‘unlock code’ for the apps, so that I can purchase him a nice little $5 gift for Christmas of the Android app? I’d love to give P…
Well we only get five votes, and it’s a fairly niche request. You could just hand the person a fiver to reimburse them.
I guess the real request here is to be able to gift an IAP on an app store, and that’s a request for Google/Apple really, since the one-time fee is platform/store-account based.
This is a better money making idea than sending my Mom an email about what anime I watched last week. Just saying.
