I have a friend who uses my plex server all the time, but since his laptop broke, he’s lost his only ability to use my plex server. He has an iPad and an Android phone, but as you know, both of those apps are now “free” instead of costing the $5 the apps actually are.
Can you please provide a mechanism through your website, and then through your apps, to purchase an ‘unlock code’ for the apps, so that I can purchase him a nice little $5 gift for Christmas of the Android app?
I’d love to give Plex a little more of my money (I already own the Lifetime pass myself) so that he can use my Plex server again… but I don’t see any way to do it currently. He does have a Plex account (he doesn’t pay for Plex Pass obviously, otherwise this wouldn’t be a problem) that you could perhaps register ownership of the $5 apps to?
Really? A one-time sign in with my Plex Pass enabled account on his phone, and then sign out… and he’d be able to continue using the Android app fully? I haven’t tried this but I assumed that if I signed out again and he signed back in, then he’d be back to the 5-minute “limited” version of the app.
I think what he meant was: if you add this user to your Plex Home, he can use the app fully.
That of course is only an option if you want him to be a member of your Plex Home and are OK with his user name appearing on the ‘Switch User’ screen.
(and the possibility of him guessing your PIN and thus being able to switch to your user account)
eh, I guess I’d rather not deal with that. He’s a good guy but he’s not family, hah.
Really, I just wanted to get him an unlocked Plex App gift. And it’s sad that right now, there’s no way to do that. Why I put it down as a “suggestion” - because unless someone tells me I’m wrong, I think we can all agree this is currently not possible.

Yep. I already knew there were workarounds for this. Unfortunately, thanks to tax laws in my location, it’d need to be a gift card for $5.25 or so - 5 cents on each dollar.
It’s like the stupid old days of “Microsoft Points” - gotta buy a $10 “point pack” in order to let someone get a $4.99 item.

Ah well. I’m happy to voice my suggestion, but Plex is busy on other things, like how to further destroy backdrops and background images and turn them into more glassy smears
Actually I just checked - looks like it’s not possible to send credit gifts in the USA. Clicking on the link at the bottom results in a dead URL.
Looks like on their official site, it’s just books and other random stuff. You can’t just gift raw “credit” to another person. Heh, I thought there was a reason I gave up on this idea a few years ago - Google just sucks at this stuff!
