Plex media server and friends invited issue

Server Version#: 1.19.4.2935

I have 6 family members on my server as friends invited since we are not living under the same house I thought it’s would be easier for them to have thier own account with Plex and I can send them a invite as friends to my server. I had came to realize after most of my family members had complaint about the playback is limited to 1 to 2 min and is restricted so I had tried to do some investigation and search online I can’t find nothing dressing this and I had looked on thier devices and I had came to a theory I don’t know how sure it is but thier account is in trail mode they do not have a Plex pass nor do I want them to get one as money is tight for them thier is a option for a one time purchase for $4.99 USAD however my thoughts on that its only for 30 days since the monthly subscription is also $4.99 per month. What had also came to my acknowledge is that if they sign in to thier fire TV stick or Roku devices or smart TV the playback isn’t restricted at all its only on thier phone tablet and computer they had verified thier email download the Plex app and create account it’s just on thier mobile devices that are restricted and not the smart TV devices. So I need some help on this one what should I tell them go ahead and make the one time purchase or just continue to watch it on the fire stick I don’t want to be that one family members who can’t do nothing to help and I’m at a lost here

Hi MasterMindS901,
Ah, yes, those Apps Plex offers… I had the same issue; I have a non-plex-pass account because I don’t need the additional features but I needed to purchase the Android app. So the whole thing is as follows; Plex offers the Plex Media Server and it’s website for free with limited functionality (Plex Media Player is the same as in Browser, you can even use back and forward just like in your browser, so little effort), but Android and iOS are completely different with a lot of effort, so Plex says: that’ll be Plex Pass only. But people without that may not need the full fetched Plex Pass (like me) and complained (not like me, was too late to the party), so they offered this Plex Pass Lite, a one-time fee to enable the Android/iOS app. FYI the Android app is not optimal or smooth in any way, Picture in picture, playlists and play queues rarely work without problems, but it’s still way better than opening the whole thing in a browser on your phone.
Hope this helps

That’s not completely accurate.

The one time purchase for activating the mobile apps is exactly that. It’s a ONE TIME purchase to activate the app, and remove the one minute limitation, and lasts for life (associated with that particular Apple ID / Google Play account). There is no “full” and “lite” version of the apps. You can find out more about what you get with a Plex Pass here: https://www.plex.tv/plex-pass/#modal-features

Thank you guys however I do have Plex pass I had paid the lifetime one for $129 for lifetime it’s just my family members are in the trail mode and playback is limited should I just till them just pay for the one time when they have more then one device or do they have to pay per devices or something. When I send out the invite friends they are automatically in trail would I tell them to get the monthly subscription or just go with the one time purchase for the app?

It’s not per device, but per App Store account. So if they only use iOS devices (iPhone/iPad) then it’ll work on all devices (as long as they’re using the same Apple ID). If they only use Android, then it’ll work on all their Android devices (as long as they use the same Google Play account). If they use both iOS and Android mobile devices, then they’ll need to purchase one on each
