I have 155,000 photos sorted into 3,400 folders, which are labeled by date and a description of what is in them. My photos go back to 1996, at a time when film was transferred to CD’s!
I use Plex Media Server so I and my family can view my photos. In your traditional Plex App, such as what is currently on Roku, I can do a slideshow with shuffle, or in order, at any level of the folder tree on my Plex Media Server (i.e. all 3400 folders, a subgroup of them or a single folder). I used to be able to get the location of the photo as well, so I could remind myself or tell a family member where the photo was taken (not just the date). Now I have to get location data by pausing the slideshow and opening the Plex Media Server to look at activity.
I use Google Photos as an alternative backup, but it has limitations in doing the above, doesn’t cover all the years I have digital photos for, and I am forced to save my backups in Storage Saver Quality to save money.
It is so fun to shuffle 29 years’ worth of photos on the Roku Plex App on a big TV screen and tell people when and where the photos were taken! It would also be fun on Android. But the current Plex Photos App for Android offers none of this, and I fear you will take away the option on Roku when you split off Photos from Movies, TV and Home Video.
Please add back Slideshow with the option for Shuffling, and Folder Location in the Details of Each Photo on your Plex Photo App (including having a way to access the details in Roku; details for each photo are already on Android).
I could even see myself opting in for some version of Remote Watch Pass so I could show friends and family when I am not at home.
Thanks!
