Allowing a managed user (TEEN) to access our home videos

Server Version#:1.31.3.6868-7000 (Synology NAS)
Player Version#: 4.100.1

Hi All, I’ve looked everywhere, but I cannot find a solution to this.

I’ve created a managed user with the restriction of TEEN, so then no nightmare inducing movies can be watched, but unfortunately our HOME MOVIES folders shows up as blank.
Is there away to have the folder HOME MOVIES set to be able to always play any of the content, similar to setting the rating of the file but anything that gets put in this folder can be played (so then any new files don’t need the ratings added, it would just take it from the folder?
I really hope that makes sense…

Thanks
Tarakoz

Edit the movie (pencil icon) and assign a content rating (G, PG, etc) that is viewable with teen restrictions.

You can edit select/edit multiple movies:

  • Using Plex Web, view the library
  • Select the first movie (circle in top left of poster)
  • Slowly scroll to last movie (if you scroll too fast, Plex will not pick all movies)
  • Select last movie (Plex should select all movies between first & last selection)
  • Choose pencil icon at top of window (where it shows X items selected)
  • Enter & lock the desired content rating.
  • Save Changes

Note: You cannot edit the content rating for a Collection. If you select a Collection, the Pencil Icon will disappear. To get around this, sort the library by anything other than Title.

Since you have a Plex Pass you can also use the custom restrictions instead of the profiles and add a label (can be any thing you want) to all your home movies that are allowed.

Thanks FordGuy61, I just tried that, it certainly woks to view the files under the RECOMMENDED tab, but when I view the LIBRARY tab, it just displays EMPTY FOLDER, if I change the users restriction to NONE, it shows the folders under LIBRARY.

Ahhh, I just noticed, when the filter is set to FOLDER, I cannot see any of the folder views, but if I set it to MOVIES, I can see all of them (just not organised for easy finding), not sure why it would stop the folder views from displaying, it almost seems like theres a privilege issue???

Folders don’t have properties so when you add a restriction they are all hidden.

If in you movie library you had a Avatar/Avatar.mkv and also had Friday the 13th/Friday the 13th.mkv. Though the actual movie would be hidden the folder “Friday the 13th” would still be viewable fi we did not hide all folders. Now say one had a folder for the movie named “Nymphomaniac”

Thank Big wheel, that does make sense. The way it shows up with no restrictions is perfect.
I have HOME MOVIES with the following folders inside
CARS
CAMPING
BIKES
FAMILY
HOLIDAYS

Is the only way I can show these folders (for easy navigation) is to keep using NO RESTRICTIONS?

BTW, I thought I would gegt smart and add a custom exclusion and put M15+, R and R18+ in the exclusion and this also removed the folder view., so that didn’t work…

yeah it would need to be none to keep the folder.

What I would do since you have a Plex Pass is give all those home videos in each folder a Genre that matches the folder name ( using the select all method mentioned above)

The Plex Pass enables the Categories tab at the top which displays those Genres which I would use instead of folder view.

Oh nice, thanks, I never thought of using GENRE, you da man(or woman, I have no idea)!
