I came here today to hear about what people thought about the most recent version before I’d allow my devices to upgrade and was shocked to see that there hasn’t been an update since January 2025. Anyone have any idea when the new AppleTV client will release?
Plex have been preparing the „new experience“ version for Apple TV for some time. As of today it’s only available as TestFlight preview, getting regular updates along with the mobile apps. Though, no indication when Plex will release it publicly.
Tom, what can be said is that it’s closer to release than it was 12 months ago. ![]()
I sure hope so ![]()
I’m using the preview almost daylight and pretty happy with it.
Well Tom, the latest ATV Testflight 2026.10.0 (1736) is a great step forward. Live Tv and DVR are working really well. Library Navigation has improved, the app seems to be snappier and a cool list of fixes.
It been a very pleasant evening watching the Telly and my Plex shows. ![]()
Well…if it’s so great why doesn’t somebody release it, hmmm???
So for those using the Testflight version, what’s missing in that release vs. the legacy version now?
Trust me, that’s a blessing.
You DON’T want this ■■■■■■ ui update. It looks nice (IMO), runs like ass. The UX is wonky. It doesn’t make sense to me. And live tv functionality is just broken. I am trying to watch my tv channel and it freezes every 30 minutes.
So you don’t have the latest release, so your trust is not worthy in this case
What?
I do have the latest release. It’s why I’m telling you you don’t want the new UI update…
Took some getting used to, but I’ve adjusted to the new layout. With the recent fixes to the focus issues and skip credits, I’m not getting as frustrated with it.
Not sure how my kids and parents will adjust when it releases to public though, parents will likely struggle. I still have them on the public release vs beta, considering switching them soon.
I don’t use my tuner a ton, but it’s been working pretty good on the beta. It’s not slow, loads fine. Maybe others that use it more have seen more issues.
Overall it’s pretty smooth on the ATV. Are you on the ATV beta or another platform?
Every single person I know personally who uses Plex cannot stand the new interface. I have helped every one of them roll back and lock their clients to the old experience. It’s just better, in every single way. There is zero value added to the new experience. Zero. It’s harder to use, waaay less friendly for disabilities, and in a lot of users opinions it looks way worse. There’s far less you can see on the screen now. Square art and custom logos are horrible and inconsistent. It’s just bad. I will never use it, ever. I’m currently testing out a few third party players that actually seem to have a grasp of good UI/UX practices ![]()
You’re not missing out on anything. Actually, you should disable auto update of the app, to make sure it won’t ever update. As long as it takes to release, it keeps the old app working just as intended. Brilliant side effect.
The “latest release” should only be understood as what is publicly available to ALL USERS, not just a selected few.
When the new version hit my iPhone I was horrified and immediately locked down all our ATV devices to keep them on the old version. However, I know from long experience that this technique has a limited lifetime and eventually one or more pieces will stop functioning correctly or at all. I wrote a comment on another thread that says all I have to say about the new “experience” but I know better than to try and fight the inevitable future, it’s coming. I’d just like it to be fully functional before I participate…
Please read my post, not take extracts out of context. I clearly commented on a version.
People can complain about the UI of the beta app all they want but its miles better than Infuse’s UI which seems to have been developed by a child who just learned to code.
Beta app imo has feature parity with the release app while also fixing all my microstuttering problem. They need to fix some of the UI glitches, get HDR10+ working, and confirm whether DV is still “fake” or not. But generally its coming along quite nicely and I use it whenever I’m not watching an HDR10+ video (I have a Samsung so can’t do DV).
Nothing wonky with Plex on my ATV 4K (2022)
So I don’t understand your blinded grand standing. Just Dribble…
Oh he means the beta? I hear they did fix stuff, but yeah no the beta isn’t the latest release… Idk what he’s smoking…
If apple tv’s only availability is infuse, that sucks. I never tried infuse but the old official app was nice. Keep that ■■■■ locked.
Care to share a video on doing this on firestick? Until they fix live tv, it’s borked my live tv watching, as plezy is just as broken too (slowly goes out of sync over 30 mins or so).
Having cutstom logos is a great idea. I can’t speak to their execution, but I don’t hate the idea.
For those on the test flight beta—
- does the new app use Apple Metal / GPU for decoding? Current Apple TV app uses the CPU which isn’t the preferred method
- is the 4k video / audio sync issue fixed? Having to add a +350ms delay is so frustrating as not all media requires it, so having the bounce back and forth is annoying
- does it work as good as Infuse?
- are subtitles no longer in dumb positions? Infuse does subtitles so well, in the empty black space below the video and not on-top of the video
