Alphabetical listing disappeared on last update

Using Mac, I noticed that the alphabetical listing on the right side of the TV screen is missing when I go full screen. It’s there when in window mode. In previous versions, it was there. Was that intentional ?

I never noticed this because I keep my Movie library sorted by release date, but I can confirm the alpha tool does not appear in my Movie library when sorted by Name, ascending or descending. In my case, full screen or windowed does not matter.

Which browser are you using ?
I can see the Alpha list on the side in either windowed or fullscreen running Chrome (56.0.2924.87) on Windows 10

Currently at work, I’m using

  • Firefox 51 (oops, just updated to 52) 32-bit
  • Chrome 56.0.2924.87 (64-bit)
  • IE 11

on Windows 7 Enterprise. Server is at home. Same result in all browsers.

This is very weird. Because the OP’s screenshots showed a TV library, I was looking at my Movie library (I only have a very small TV library). My Movie library won’t show the Alpha picker under any circumstances. I decided to check my Music libraries, and found the following:

I have two Music libraries, one for Classical, and one for everything else. Both are Premium libraries, with identical settings, aside from folders and names.

My Popular Music library shows the alpha picker in all circumstances:

  • Artist view, sorted by Name (asc/desc)
  • Album view, sorted by Artist (asc/desc)
  • Album view, sorted by Name (asc/desc)

My Classical Music library shows the alpha picker only in the Album view:

  • Album view, sorted by Artist (asc/desc)
  • Album view, sorted by Name (asc/desc)

I can find no reason why the Classical library won’t show it in Artist view. I know it used to.

The alphabet list only shows when you have a large number of items. I don’t know the exact number but if there are fewer then X items, it doesn’t show. That number might be different too depending on the media type.

Edit - I think it may also depend on the size of the icons you’ve set. I set mine to the largest so they take up a lot of the screen and the list shows up. Set them smaller and the list goes away.

Aha! When did that happen? It hasn’t always been that way, has it?

Confirmed: I shrank my browser window while viewing a library without the alpha picker. When I made it smaller, the picker showed up.

Don’t know, it may have always been like this with Web v3. I never actually looked before.

I just ran into this again, noticing that the picker was gone on one of my music libraries. Took me a minute to remember this conversation, and I almost opened a new thread.

I think this is non-intuitive enough that it should be fixed. If it were disappearing when all my artists fit on a single screen, that’s one thing, but I have at least two full screens of artists. It doesn’t make sense to not see the picker.

Agree, got me too.
