I am a complete novice and don’t understand the jargon. I have been round in circles for 2 days without an answer. I can sign in to my plex account on my computer but it says " looking for server" I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and its always the same. Today I uninstalled my VPN but that made no difference, something is blocking the server in some way. I am windows 7 my computer is wifi from an Orange Livebox. The computer is working from it so why won’t the plex server work?
Make sure you restart Plex after enabling/diusabling VPN software or switching WiFI/LAN networks.
If you already had Plex installed on this computer (even if it was already years ago), you might still have old account info in your Registry.
Clear these out with this procedure: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/
And make sure to use either Chrome or Firefox as your web browser.
I said I was a novice so having followed the above link I couldn’t navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server I found HKEY current user but no sign of Plex???

Then it appears that Plex is not installed at all.
Is your Windows 7 updated?
It needs to have ‘Service Pack 1 for Windows 7’
and ‘Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7’ installed. (and all security updates which came out until today)
Plex media server is in my program list, I reinstalled it today. I am completely up to date with windows 7 although I don’t use IE
That’s OK, IE11 just needs to be installed.
What happens if you run Plex Media Server?
Do you get the task tray icon?
Anyway, after starting Plex Media Server, wait 2 minutes, then fetch log files manually: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/
Why do I need IE 11?
Yes I get the task tray icon
Because it brings other important updates, which are needed by Plex.
ok I am away from my computer today so will do it later
Hi Ann, try to open a cmd screen and try to find a way to ping the server. If that works than your network connection is ok. (START -> RUN ->CMD(enter) {a little black screen with text appears, then type} PING [your server’s ipadres where plexserver is installed]
I had problems to find my server a while back when my raspberry pi’s were shut down for a long time, I solved it to add in the client settings a NTP, that is a Time Server protocol and lets your network synchronize in time. Your router should also be on the right time, synchronized I mean…
This way the client works, at least it did in my case. Hope this helps…
Thanks I will try this later

I am struggling!!!. Instructions say go to settings and sign in to server. There’s absolutely no mention of a server on my settings. My head is spinning going round in circles. I have tried Windows support but they say its a plex support issue. You can’t contact them direct for help
attached is a screen shot of the registry, what do I do next?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Not HKEY_USERS
I’m gonna go ahead and comment here since I’m having the same issue she is having.
I’m using Windows 10.
So i’ve uninstalled, removed all the regedit keys and all appdata, removed all the old “allowed units” from my account and reinstalled it.
It worked for a good 5-10 minutes. I added some shows and the I closed the webpage (not server itself). When i decided to add some more stuff “Get your plex media server” only shows up. During that 10min window I was able to find the server on my ipad but the it dissapeard.
I’ve tried accessing it through localhost, the assigned ipv4 and pressing “open plex” in tray but they all yield the same result. Also tried all different ports/ips assigned to plex but none worked.
I spun up a linux server on my homelab and used a dummy account and got it to work on my network so it shouldn’t be a network issue.
OK Here is a screen shot but I still cant see Plex. Where do I look?

You have posted the full path yourself above.
It is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
So next you need to unfold ‘Software’.
I have found all except onlinehome and have deleted them. Now what?
It is working hoorray!!! Just trying to remember how to update library, have asked my friend.
Thanks for your help
Ann
