Amazon Fire Tablet for Kids - Access to SD Card within Kids Profile

Currently, when using Plex within the Kids profile, you cannot access or make use of the external SD Card. This means you are limited to the 7GB of internal storage for downloading media. If you run Plex in the adult profile, you can access SD Card just fine.

Feature request is that Plex allow Kids Profile to access and make use of external SD Card for downloading media for offline play

I ran into the same thing around 2.5yrs ago. that’s the way it is. I think this is a limitation of “FreeTime” and not a limitation of the Plex client.

Really stinks that the restricted profile can’t access the expanded SD storage.
I’ve ran this up and down the flag poll at Amazon, all they can tell me is that it’s the current restriction of FreeTime.

Hope you have better luck than I did.

I did have a gut feel that the restrictions would be Amazon side but would be nice for a developer to confirm this. I wonder if they could at least allow kids profile to see the downloaded content - so rather than allowing read/write to the SD Card - perhaps just read - this way parent could use the adult profile to sync/download content for offline viewing

Found the solution in another thread: You have to login with the Admin profile (Not a kids freetime profile) and then install the Plex app to set storage permissions. Under the app settings you have to set the permissions for “Storage” to allow the Freetime profiles to see the SD card. I tried to do this a few times with my current setup and faced some issues so decided to just start over with a clean factory reset. After doing so I then immediately logged in with my Admin profile and installed Plex. Then go to the “Apps & Notifications” menu and find Plex and finally selecting “Permissions” and selecting to grant “Storage” permission. Now going back into my childs profile the option is listed in the Plex storage options for sync settings. Good luck!
