Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K - Live TV Keeps Freezing

Hi everyone,

I am constantly running into an issue streaming Live TV from my tuner with Plex on Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K. I experience issues with it freezing out after streaming for about 5 minutes on any channel. I have attached the log below. I updated the Plex Server, Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, I have uninstalled/reinstalled the Plex application on the Amazon Fire Stick, and it still happens. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Possibly related to subtitle issue here - PMS on Pi 4 with HDHomerun cannot play live TV?

Also make sure your HDHR’s H264 transcode feature is enabled in Plex’s tuner settings. I had a similar issue…although admittedly logs look different which was resolved by enabling the HDHomeRun’s H264 HW transcoder.

I had the same issue with the latest Fire Stick. Never could figure it out. Returned it and now I am using a Tivo Stream with Android TV. No more issues with freezing.

I was running into the same issues for awhile and ended up finding a post somewhere suggesting the Channels Live TV app for Fire TV to be used for watching live TV instead of through plex. It’s pricey (one time $25 fee) and connects directly to the HD Homerun, but I’ve had zero issues watching live TV since moving to it. I’m still using Plex to act as the DVR when I want to record, but for live TV on my fire TV sticks I’m using this other app until they ever figure out the live TV streaming issues with Plex.

Hello,

I’ve found a way to fix all these freeze when using live TV on Fire TV. Set “Enable new video player” to disable and set “Transcode interlaced” to enable.

I tried this out and it does fix my problem with streaming live tv. However, when I then try to go and play TV Shows from my plex library it doesn’t work. Once I then switch it back to the new player my library shows will work but again the live tv won’t. This all is very frustrating.

I too have this issue with a Firestick I got a week ago. Turning off the “new video player” does seem to make it work. Turning that off gets rid of some good features though. I had a Roku in the same location and did not have this problem. I only got the Firestick for more apps. Might not be worth the apps if it doesn’t work like it should.
