I am running the latest version of Plex on a Synology NAS that is running DSM7. I have many Amazon FireSticks throughout the house (4K). all running the latest version of the Plex player. The problem being I am getting sound on videos but NO video. Also when trying to view photos I am getting “unable to play media”.
Everything works just fine on a Windows PC…
Not sure where to go from here. Very frustrating.
Which Firestick model? Which Synology model? Are there subtitles involved?
Have the FireTV Ultra 4K which has no difficulties provided no subtitles are burned.
Synology model is the DS1618+ running DSM 7.0.1-42218 Update 2. Model Fire TV Stick 4K - 1st Generation.
No subtitles are involved.
The DS1618+ has no hardware transcoding.
Would it be possible for you to capture some DEBUG logs which contain these failures so I can review them?
I’ve not had a problem until just recently. I believe an update to either Plex or Synology caused this. Sure, how do I capture debug info?
In the app, go into settings , turn on Network logging.
Now go back to the server, verify DEBUG logging is enabled.
Recreate the problem (which I am also just now seeing too on a Fire TV Ultra) and play again just long enough to capture the no video.

Wait 20 seconds.
Download the Server logs
Download the app logs

I didn’t find anything in the logs themselves.
Since I can recreate it here from time to time, I’m working on capturing it.
If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them.
Does anyone from Plex development ever chime in on these forums? Obviously this is a repeatable issue. Used to work just fine, now it doesn’t. I’m sure an update or new setting changed…
