I have a Synology NAS device (DS920+) and now that i’ve set it up and added some media to it seemingly ok, i just cant watch any of it.
I get “An error occured while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.” when trying to watch video my Fire Stick (same network)
and also via browser connecting directly to the synology.
I have had plex working via a low power windows server for years on the same network which has worked without issue. if i add the same media to that it plays via browser and fire stick.
i’ve tried reintalling plex, renaming preferences, deleting plex share and reinstalling, and tried toggling various settings back and forth.

Any help would be appreciated
Edit: interestingly plex htcp seems to work. Yet running from the browser on the same device (iptosynology:32400/web/index.html) doesnt, nor does using the windows store plex app from the same device.)
but honestly the priority is the fire tv, and i’m now wondering if it’s a fire tv app specific error?
It’s important to note the fire tv app works fine with my windows server’s plex instance, it’s just fire tv to synology that’s having this error apparently
hmm, yeah I’ve done that a few times, i’ve also uninstalled plex and deleted the share and started from scratch a few times, still have the same issue
all devices are on same subnet
plex works between laptop and synology but not fire tv and synology
but windows server to laptop and windows server to fire tv works fine. so not a router issue
no firewall enabled on synology
i’ve now again completely deleting plex share, reinstalled plex,re added the server to my account.
same again plex htcp works within minutes. firetv app says “an error occurred while attempting to play this video”
whereas the plex windos server has no issues and videos play.
all same subnet. plex htpc works for both servers, firetv only works for windows server
I had the same exact problem and symptoms as you. I had a 03-13-21 version of plex on my Synology 1621+ I got from Synology, did a manual upgrade via a .spk file downloaded within Plex, installed it, and now everything now works correctly.
hopefully they push the fixed plex version to the synology repo. Who knows how many others are getting bitten by a buggy version being the latest they can download.
