An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again

Server Version#: 1.30.2.6563
Player Version#: all latest

Hi I know this have been solved in the past, but I couldn’t find anything relevant to my issue apart for having the same issue

I have been running Plex of my Sinology 918+ for 4+ years without any issues
I have the latest official Synology ver. DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 1

for the past few months I keep getting “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.” error message on my FireTV Cube 1st gen, Hisense TV, Mi Box S4 and other devices - whenever I keep on trying to play, I get to play it at the end after 10+ errors,
I simply press play over the over again until it finally works…
both my FireTV and Hisense are LAN connected via a 1K netgear switch and I have Orbi Wifi the satellite is literally on the same shelf as my Mi Box and it’s connected over LAN as well - so no network issue or latencies
I also experience issues with playing from outside of my network over the internet

I have been trying to enable untrusted network, didn’t work
I keep on updating the Plex server manually to the latest thinking that it’s a known issue that will be resolved, but it also doesn’t help

So I am hoping that I am missing something simple that can fix it

You’ve lost your HW transcoding. Notice there is no vaapi listed on the “TPU:” line.

When you have something and it starts failing / not always working like this - The most common cause is a change in the media .

Does this file have subtitles in it? If it has subtitles (Image based – PGS VOBSUB, or DVDRIP) then PMS not engage hardware.

ALSO, look at the MDE clause. Normally it resolves and spells it all out. Something is amiss at this point.

Can you share the XML (hover over item → get info → View XML → from top down to </media clause using CODE </> formatting ?

Hi @ChuckPa really appreciating you getting back to me.
Sorry for not being very technical - so my questions may be a bit off

  1. If I’ve lost my HW transcoding? is there anything I can do to bring it back :-)… any SW switch to toggle?

  2. This issue occurs lately on 95% of my TV/movie files and very few of them have embedded sub, for most of them I download the sub using Plex but this is only after I success in playing them, so when I press the play they don’t have any sub
