Yup. Got the logs. I am seeing an issue that I see with some other reports too. Something to do with the audio. I’m looking into it.

Another data point: I have one of those new Chromecast with Google TV (android) and it works flawlessly with the same setup.

I had disabled the secure connection, save the changes, and then re-enable it again with preferred setting and save again, then it work.
I am working on Sony BRAVIA 65x900h and PMS 8.18.2.25850

It is an issue with the security certificate so those steps may work for some.

Cannot currently run on Android devices. Multiple phones and Google TV affected. Web app is absolutely fine.

Can also confirm that the native Samsung TV app plays Plex local media fine. Issue is affecting Android only. And affects multiple Android devices.

Your logs show the same certificate issue I am seeing.

Disabling security actually worked. Remote play is off atm. anyway.

So like many other people (I can’t believe the community is not going more crazy about this as it must be affecting 1000s of people) Plex has stopped working on my Nvidia Shield and Amazon Fire TV however continues to work ok on Apple TV and Samsung TVs. This has been a problem for over a month now. Clearly a change has been made somewhere which affects certain Android based devices but so far I am not finding any useful information online. I have attached the logs from my Nvidia Shield where you can see the failures at the end of the file. I use my Nvidi

a Shield as both Plex server and player. The Plex version is 1.21.0.3711 and Shield version is 8.2.3(32.6.518.0).

well me i gave up i attached the logs from both my android devices and server but no help has been given …according to everyone’s complain i believe its on the side of plex they must have done something to their systems coz this is affecting a lot of android devices and it looks like its only one plex employee that is responding to our messages what frustrating is most of us are plex pass members

I tried playing with the “Secure connections” on PMS:

  1. I changed it initially to “Disabled”, saved the changes, restarted the Plex APP on Android, and it finally worked.
  2. Right after I turned back it to “Preferred”, saved again the changes, restarted the Plex APP on Android and it didn’t work anymore. Clearly the same if I set Required on PMS.

@ [y_alkateefi_gmail_com] Did you restart the Plex app on Android? If I don’t restart the Plex App on Android in my step 1 it looks working, but I guess after the first restart of the devices or the App the problem is still there.

So, for my configuration, the workaround to have the Android app working again is to disable the Secure Connection on PMS, at least up to this security issue will be solved.

No problem at all on iOS, Samsung TV, and on the Plex web; only the Android devices.
In this case (unsecured connection), the Plex web works on HTTP and not HTTPS anymore.

Agreed with all above. How can we get this issue more visibility? Can we escalate this to higher support? Really would like a fix to this or SOME kind of update as to what is being actively done to correct this. Even with insecure connections enabled, it’s still finicky starting content. Please can MORE PLEX EMPLOYEES chime in???

Hi I have the same issues, Sony Bravia and shield both android clients not playing with same error messages in first post. Web browser playing content and also LG app works fine. Rolled back the client app on the shield and everything works fine. Clearly this is related to the latest updates from Plex. I have tried all network settings and nothing works for me. Come on Plex this is not good the amount of logs you have been sent you must know what the issue is now ! Please fix ASAP

Same issue, WD My Cloud Home running version 1.18.6.2350. Only just bought this so pretty shocked it is so out of date with no updates in recent times. I tried the ‘allow insecure connections’ fix - which gave me about 5 hours of blissful video watching, and then the same error message re-appeared. The web app now says 'Unable to connect to “WD Cloud Home” securely. Well, yes. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Anyone know if there’s any way to update the PMS version manually? I fear not. I’ll be returning the WD in a few days if a fix from either party is not forthcoming. Life is too short.

Bit weird. I have the same WD My Cloud/Chromecast with GTV setup. Generally it hasn’t been working but one day last week, it did play a film I had saved and today it is playing TV episodes. (All stored on the My Cloud)
The version of Plex on the CC is the same as the one on my phone, updated weeks ago, so no idea what has changed or if it will keep working.
It hadn’t worked for weeks, so odd that there is a sudden change. (I’m not a Plex Pass customer, so can’t use the phone app. It has always worked in my phone browser and allowed me to cast to the CC).

The problem is the impossibility to set the old player… the last version is the 8.11 Without this option, and obbligatory use the new version of player, the media don’t run… For the moment, is use de 6.0 for android phone and the 8.11 for the firestick

Hi.
I have the same problem on WD MyCloud server. With the latest android app update none of my movies or series playing. What I get message is " An Error Occurred While Attempting to Play Video". Only on android app (oneplus 8 pro)

It drives me crazy. I can not use my library. Only one thing helped, but this is a workaround, is that if you allow external player to play the files (for me it is MK Player). It plays the file from the plex server but does not record where I left off.

I hope somebody reads this from Plex. As I can not use my library from plex android app as a lifetime subscriber.

Stopped working again last night. I’m not making any changes my end, so don’t get why it works very occasionally but it’s generally useless now.

@Plex Team I’m gonna ask a buy back from the 199€ paid for long-life subscription or either put a demand on that with other users.

More than a 1 MONTH without being able to play any movie on FireStick Android TV neither in my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S21).

I am having the same issue, unable to play videos on my android phone or fire sticks. The issue cannot be pms update as I have mine on a raspberry pi and it cannot update automatically, so must be the app. However, as someone pointed out my remote access has also failed, despite it being rock solid for the last year. Is this a symptom?

Looking at the logs, i thought it looked like a transcoding issue? No direct player available, despite it working fine until recently.

Next step I will try and update the PMS and try unsecured connection as well.

For all the customers… I have the same problem about a WD Home edition.
I use the plex version 8.11… if I deselect the option “use the new media player”, all works great!
