I need the “Plex for Dummies” version of support.
I can play movies from my WD MyCloud on my computer through Plex App or by just clicking the file from MyCloud Home. However, when I try to watch via the App on the TV via Firestick I get the above message.
I have deleted the app and reinstalled in on the Firestick and on my laptop. Still get the same error. I downloaded and installed version 1.24.5.5160-19d8ce86f on my laptop.
On the TV Plex shows what movie I was watching on my laptop where it says “continue watching”, but when I click on the movie - same error.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Plex had been working fine so I have no idea when it stopped working or why.
The Plex App for PC supports more formats than the Fire Stick, First thing you want to do is get info on what exactly you are playing codec-wise. Also use the browser on your Fire Sick to run a speed test. Even though you are playing locally this will still be a good way to spot networking issues if to have no local speed testing server to use for this.
Is this what you mean by Plex Server Edition? This is the file that I downloaded and installed yesterday in an attempt to resolve the issue: Plex Media Server for Windows
thank you for the reply. I will run the speed test as mentioned. I am not 100% clear on the codec question though. The codec info is video specific correct? Would this matter if Plex is not playing anything in my library? None of the other people that I have on my account that has permission to watch videos in my library remotely are able to do so either.
I want to know the server version running on your NAS, but I’ll assume it’s a very old version. If you run your server on windows and use your NAS as storage only, you problem is solved, but you won’t be able to use Android players if your server is running on the NAS.
Well “not playing anything” usually would rule out it being a codec issue, unless you happen to have a “standard” encoding setup you use (so everything in your library happens fo be the same codecs for audio and video anyway). If other people can’t play either this does sound like more of a server issue. That’s a different beast than the original post which makes it seem you only use the server yourself and you have one client working (the Windows PC app) and another not (the FireTV device app).
