Hi,
Ihave been having an issue with the new media player on my android TV. I have tried with the 1.19 plex pass version and 7.30.1 version for Android TV, but its still not working. My logs are attached below
Plex Logs.log (599.2 KB)
@bdschuster unfortunately thatâs not working for me with 7.30, going to try 7.31
@bdschuster that fix doesnât work for me using 7.31, server version 1.19.1.2589, custom certificate domain matching the custom domain.
Iâm yet to pull the logs but getting the exact same error on my screen (although 7.31 does nicely load up quicker than 7.30).
@DaveBinM / other Plex people on this thread: What are the chances of including the âoldâ player as an option to revert to? As in, like the ânew playerâ was an option to switch to in old app versions?
Not to sound whiny but Iâve got whiny users (Iâm sure you can relate!) who are self-isolating and getting frustrated about not being able to play using the app.
Is :8443 the port you opened?
In my nginx/letsencrypt setup I merely use domain:443 in custom server access URL and port 443 in remote access without any issue. The connection indicator in remote access is always red, but it is working just fine nevertheless. Have been running this now for over a year or two.
I am using the Gooby (GitHub - TechPerplexed/Gooby: Gooby: The ultimate infinite Plex media server using a VPS and Cloud service) setup for my docker containers.
I closed port 8443 and use :433 also in the ADVERTISE_IP option in the docker-compose file.
Edit: Port 8443 also looks as you are using the same basis
The old player is still an option for now, but it wonât be forever. Weâre working to address as many remaining issues with the new player as we can, before we remove the old player.
@DaveBinM
Hi Dave,
Itâs not an option on Android phone/tablet devices. I can see the OP was for Shield and others with Fire Stick etc are having issues but still have the old player options, but phone and tablet on 7.30/7.31 do not have the old player option I can see.
Sorry, this is thread is specifically Android TV. If itâs for mobile, youâll need a separate thread
@wogfella, yeah,so after some additional testing last night, and rebooting my server, I was in the same boat. I ended up creating a PFX cert from the letsencrypt certs and defining them in plex:
All is working perfect, so it appears if you are going to use a reverse proxy, you are going to need to have a cert that matches the proxy domain.
Since i defined a cert, everything has been perfect, new player works, Chromecasting works again from android, android app, all things android just work now.
@Coxeroni, funny, small world, i work on that project, so that is what i use. I created a cert and iâm all good.
Haha cool, so I canât probably show you any new tricks
Thanks for the work btw, great stuff.
Did you have any problems converting to emby. I too am fed up with plex, it stays broke more than it works!
Do I need to sideload it on the fire stick? I have no option to update from the 7.29 version.
Amazon can be a bit slower to roll out updates than Google, so you can sideload it if you want to get it quicker
@DaveBinM, sorry to tag you, but any clue as to what I could be doing wrong in this specific case?
No it was pretty easy. It needs a while to find everything but thats normal switching an app. Now after a few days of use im very Happy that i did it. Im running a plex Server with a few friends with different Devices and No one with errors now
Sorry, youâll need to provide more detail than âhaving an issueâ, so we can narrow down what weâre looking for
Can you please specify the exact nature of, and any known steps to reproduce, this issue?
Hi,
Thank you for the reply. The issue is that the new video player fails and gives the ârestart plex and server errorâ. My logs are attached here:
Beta 7.31.0.16605 has caused the new player to not work again.
Wonât work for me as Iâm not the server (shared box) owner, just the plex admin.
Iâll start another thread for just Android phone tablet (not TV), which for me is odd because itâs the same errors just donât have the same fix available.
@wogfella, i donât understand what you mean you just the admin? You can only have 1 admin per Plex server, and if you donât have access to the server itself to make an SSL cert, then you wonât be able to fix anyways. You need to create an SSL cert for your domain and add it to Plex.
