Has nothing to do with DNS rebinding or it fails under the hood of PMC itself for some devices , as I wrote before I’ve got local secure connections working. Have a exception for Plex set in the settings for DNS Rebind Protection in my router. I have no custom domain or certificates and my server is reachable over
“https://app.plex.tv/desktop” browser is showing me the green lock and I’ve also got the green sign for my server and is showing local not remote.
Just to clarify I’ve also disabled remote-connection to the server completely.
PMC is working with all Movie files on an Samsung Tablet S5e and also with an OnePlus 7 on Android 10. It is not working on FireTV Stick 4K whenever a file has to be remuxed when directplay is not possible.
have you looked at the client logs. I found them to be pretty self evident what was going wrong once I dug into them.
Ok, as a lay person, can you explain what you think the issue is?
It seems like everything was working fine until the new player was turned on in the latest update and now a lot of people running android TV are having a common issue. At face value this suggests the app is at fault but your suggesting it’s their DNS settings?
The old one didn’t care about the DNS issue, the new one does.
the old one connected to a local ip address. the new one connects to a fully qualified domain name (plex.direct) which isn’t resolving correctly.
OK, this is crazy! This issue has been been going on since February 2020 with now over 300 replies, There has been very little input here from Plex regarding supporting us customers. Please look into this and report back with some solutions. I appreciate we are in difficult times, but this issue hasn’t been resolved to date.
I was excited, a new version 8.0.0.17051-beta and new media server 1.19.2.2673 release could it be true… I load and restart both and alas LIVE TV WITH NEW PLAYER IS STILL NOT WORKING - Please can we get this fixed!!!
How can you have it, New Player, working in one version (7.31.0.16542-beta) then not working in subsequent versions?
have you looked at your player logs? https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/
I completely agree. I’m having the same error message and I can’t seem to resolve it. Plex, pull your finger out and respond.
i have sent logs in regards to this issue several times.
How did you switch to the older player on the MiBox S?
Go into the options on the player by clicking on the user on the top left. Scroll down until you see the option for ‘advanced’. Scroll over to the right (sometimes it’s off screen) and you’ll find the icon for ‘enable new player’ which you switch to ‘off’.
per a search on this forum, I don’t see any of your logs (but perhaps search sucks), so I figure you just mean you sent them to plex. did you look at them yourself?
Thank, you, that fixed it. Cheers.
Wouldn’t say this was a fix, more of a workaround. The new player is superior to the old when it works. Still hopeful of some news soon
@DaveBinM
Here is a new log for version 8.0.0.

You asked me to work together with your engineers to fix this problem. Please contact me and I will do all I can to help. I am at home most of the time anyway.
you have the same issue as I described
04-23 16:08:41.122 i: [FFmpeg] [ERROR] [tcp @ 0x300ab2cb40] Failed to resolve hostname 192-168-178-20.0213465b7b054997b2f1af119cae80c8.plex.direct: No address associated with hostname

With the latest beta update (8.0.x?) neither the old or the new player are able to play a wide range of 720p h264 videos now with this dumb error. I used to simply revert to the old player and ignored the new one, but now it looks like they’ve gone and intentionally broken things.
All the video files I have problems with are those from BBC iplayer obtained using youtube-dl
Sure, just to annoy you personally. Client logs when playback fails and xml info of one of the files?
