An error occurred While attempting to play this video

Hi All

I am baffled and am getting no where. Since upgrading to the latest version of Plex on my Synology DS 413, I can no longer play ANY videos on my Xbox One using Plex. No matter what video I click on I am getting:

"An error occurred while attempting to play this video."

I am not getting any other information apart from that... has anyone got any ideas? It does not matter what file type it is (.mkv, .mp4. .avi) nothing plays anymore. I have tried going back to version 0.9.11.14; however, even there it wont play anything anymore.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Remi

Please get Plex MEdia server logs.

How do I do that?

https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200250417-Plex-Media-Server-Log-Files

That will explain the different types and the most common locations

So I cleared all the logs and ran a test using two video files and it produced these logs. (Note, I have XXXXXXXX out my directories for privacy.

So I have been uninstalling and reinstalling old versions one by one and have found that version 0.9.11.13.874-dd72b17 works; however, all versions after that do not work and I get the above mentioned error.

With version 0.9.11.13.874-dd72b17 I can play all files without any problems.

Does anyone know what has changed? As mentioned, I have a Synology DS413 and am playing the files through an Xbox One.

Anyone?

he snippets you posted don't include any attempt to actually start/play a video so trying to figure out why it isn't playing is really hard.  If I had to guess something in the file is causing trouble with ffmpeg trying to read the file as the information being updated is showing h264 with 0 bitrate.

Speaking with one of the Transcoder engineers full logs and a sample would be really helpful.

https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201035968-Generating-Sample-Files-from-Media

If you don't want to post them here, you can PM the logs and link to me and I will forward it on the engineer for follow-up.

Interesting. So Synology has just released version 0.9.11.16.958-80f1748 through their package update centre. I went ahead and did this update and now again, same problem, any file I click on I get "An error occurred while attempting to ply this video". If I hit "Close" using the Xbox controller I simply get a black screen until I press "B" to go back. As mentioned, this happens on EVERY file. If I uninstall this version and go back to version 0.9.11.13.874-dd72b17 I can play every single file with no problems.

Something must have changed in the builds.

Hi J_KcKee - I have sent you a PM

I am having the same issue with my Apple Timecapsule. All of a sudden I get the error message on all video files, or it’s just a blank black screen. My iOS and web app still works, just not the Xbox one app. Help?

I have the same issue. After I converted to the latest release I cannot play movies on Xbox or ROKU. I am running Debian on a Netgear NAS.

Fantastic! We are getting some traction on this issue with others reporting it - If you want a meantime fix go back to version 0.9.11.13.874-dd72b17 and everything will work again.

Anyone above solved this problem other than with the fix I suggested?

Has this been solved for anyone by the recent Xbox One update?

Still not fixed in the latest Synology Plex Power PC Package. Please hurry up, I cannot be the only one.

Please can you post the full PMS logs of when you attempt playback? Thanks!

Sorry. I missed the bit with the PM. I’ll pester J_McKee!

Thank you very much.

I have installed the latest Plex Pass version which has allows me to open Plex on my devices; however, as soon as I open it the CPU goes to 99% and stays there and all processes on the Synology grind to a halt. It is not possible to browse any of the folders "TV shows" "Movies" etc.. I was able to Resume a show that I was already watching and appeared on the home screen and so the streaming seems to work again; however, I am not able to get to anything else. The connection drops and it says no server is found before it loads a folder. I think this may have to do with the CPU being at 99%

Hi Dom C,

Is there any update on this?
