An Error Occurred While Decoding The Media

I have a Plex server running on Ubuntu 16.04 server, and I keep it as well as the Plex Server software up to date. I have my media stored on two 4tb HDDs that are in a RAID 1 configuration.

As long as I can remember (6 months+), I’ll be watching a show or movie and the stream will randomly stop with the error “An Error Occurred While Decoding The Media”. I then hit ok and resume whatever I was watching and it will work just fine. I primarily use the Plex app for Xbox One (I don’t remember if this has happened on the web app, or iOS app, or the Apple TV app), so I’m not sure if it’s just a problem with the app and not the server.

I’ve gone through the logs and I can’t find anything that seems related. I’ve run multiple disk checks to make sure there’s not a bad drive, and I don’t see any other errors with the OS itself.

Has anyone encountered this before, or have any suggestions to troubleshoot further?

I’ve been having this issue lately on my Xbox One as well. Mine will throw the error after playing pretty much any video file longer than 45-60 minutes… though I can only remember it happening on one of my Xbox Ones. Going to try and delete the app and reinstall on the Xbox to see if that helps. Can’t really think of anything else that might affect only one of the Xbox Ones.

It looks like uninstalling/installing the app corrected my issue.

I’ve reinstalled it before, as I had the old Xbox one app and then removed it to put the new one on, I’ve also used it on more than one Xbox, and it has the same issue. I’ll try reinstalling, but my issue isn’t as consistent as your so I won’t know if it’s working until it’s not.
