I upgraded my Linux PMS to 1.23.6.4881-e2e58f321. Following this, my music library doesn’t play properly on my nvidia sheilds and the Plex client gives me an “An error occurred while playing this item” message.

This error only occurs on Plex clients running on nvidia shields. I have multiple shields (some wired and some wireless) and none of them can play this particular library. All other libraries, like TV Shows and Movies work fine. The Music library can be played on the android app on my phone and the web app just fine.

I downgraded my Linux PMS to 1.23.5.4862-0f739d462 and the library then plays fine on the shields. Any suggestions? Unfortunately the error message is quite vague and not sure how to troubleshoot from here. I appreciate any help, thank you!

I also have the same problem. Updating the server from 1.23.3 to 1.23.6 was immediately followed by the android app giving the “an error occurred while playing this item” message when trying to play ALMOST all music. I was able to play two items, one on my own server, one on a shared library. Every other audio file I tried to play failed.

Updating to 1.24.0 did not solve the issue, so I rolled back to 1.23.3 today. Music plays again, no problem.

The update definitely broke functionality with the android app. All other clients I tried continued to function normally.

Edit: I just saw this was tagged as Linux. I’m running the server on Windows.

cjdbass, I made another post after doing some additional testing and providing additional information.

No replies on that one either unfortunately.

Same issue with managed users on updated PLEX server running on Windows 2019 platform.

Version 1.24.0.4930

Same issue - and it’s not just the Shield, Plex on my MiBox has the same issue as on my Shield TV Pro.

Plays fine on my Roku.

Same issue here… Running server on windows 10. Fully updated. Unable to play music on any user but the primary on nvidia shield or on Google chromecast tv box. I have an older Android box with an older version of Plex that is able to stream fine.

Check out the other post I started and linked earlier in this thread. A solution was found that helped.

Enabling downloads for the managed user fixed the issue and seems like there will be a fix for it eventually.

Update:
After upgrading PMS to 1.25.1.5286 I no longer have this issue on my android device. I don’t know if it was the upgrade or the restart of the server/docker container that helped. But it now works both on and off LAN.

I still experience the problem on my OP6T when using a fresh install of Plex player using the admin account. But the strange thing is that it is only when I am connecting remotely, when I’m on my LAN playback works.
Neither video or music works, but after trying to play a TV show I heard the audio play after the error message. No play progress was shown but the audio was heard from the speaker. Music just fails and tries to play the next item in the playlist which promply fails as well. It was just the theme song that was playing in the background, the reinstall reverted that to the default which is to play theme music when viewing a tv show.

However, both the webapp and Plexamp can play the same media remotely so it doesn’t have anything to do with the remote connection settings as far as I can tell.
This makes me believe that there are some other playback issues that hasn’t been fixed in the Android Plex player.

I’m on the currently latest versions of both server (1.25.0.5282) and player (8.26.2.29389).
