Server Version# 1.28.1.6104
Player Version#: 5.44.6
My plex app on my samsung smart tv keeps sending an error “an unexpected playback error has ocurred”. Everything was working fine up until 3 days ago. I know the problem is with the tv because when I use my chromecast and google tv device app it works fine there. But in the tv after the.error all videos play with a terrible quality image even though I am connected via Lan to the server. The problem is only with the samsung tv app.
I can second that as I’m getting a similar behavior on my Samsung TV.
Although the quality is fine, I do get the “an unexpected playback error has occurred” error during playback.
It can happen few minutes in after starting the video (~1-3 min) where it can happen midway through, but most often it happens when there is ~3min left of the video.
It’s quite frustrating when it happens… especially at the end of the video, since i need to go and fast forward to where i was since it registered that the video was already watched.
My “work around” is to quickly hit the return button on my TV remote when i see the buffer wheel show up, and then go back to play the video… otherwise the whole plex app becomes unresponsive to anything following the error screen.
Versions/Model:
TV: QN55Q80R
Client: 5.44.6
Platform: 5
Server: 1.28.1.6104
Exactly. The same thing happened at the end of some videos at first, but now is in every video I play, it runs for some minutes and then the playback error occurred appears. When I playback again the video now runs but it is all blurry.
Id change the title of the issue to something like “an unexpected playback error has occurred on Samsung TVs”
I have also experienced this problem recently with my Samsung 55Q70R TV. After 1-2 minute of stream, first it starts buffering and then gives the error. Sometimes the plex app becomes frozen and unresponsive. I have also noticed that when I get the “unexpected playback error”, my Plex server PC disconnects from the internet, making the server unreachable. To reconnect, I have to disable and re-enable the network adapter. After struggling a while, I have solved the issue by
-Disabling the direct play
-Setting secure connections to Required (Settings > Server > Network),
-Set video bitrate to Original (prevents transcoding video stream)
-Only using SRT for subtitles or disable them completely
After these steps, when I enable the information overlay on the TV app, it shows the protocol as “dash” and video stream is not transcoded and it plays smoothly. If I try lower bitrates, video stream is transcoded and there is a lot of buffering. I also noticed that when I get the playback error, the protocol is shown as “http”. Hope this helps you.
The same thing is happening to my Samsung tv Plex app too. I have tried the steps mentioned in this thread however it’s still not resolved it for me
Are Plex aware of this issue and are working on a fox?
I have also had this problem for a couple of weeks on a Samsung au8000.
Sometimes lowering the original quality to a lower quality plays, but it doesn’t always work. It also happens when playing on my pc.
At least with this post I know it’s not a configuration problem but a Plex error.
Thanks to all.
I have the same problem on my Samsung TV last 6 months from update plex, nothing changed,
that my question is the same…
Are Plex aware of this issue and are working on a fix???
I was planning to buy Plex pass, but after this problem I dont.
Nope, we were not aware of this issue. I was just pointed to this thread. In the Plex app, there is an option to send logging information to the server. Please enable that setting and reproduce the issue. That setting is only enabled for 20 minutes, it will turn itself off after that. If you can’t reproduce the error before 30 minutes, you will need to stop playback, enable that setting again, resume playback.
Once you’ve successfully recreated and captured the error, please send me your server log. You can PM them to me if you do not want to share publicly. Let me know what time (local to you) the error occurred.
@peto495 Got your log.
Sep 24, 2022 17:07:27.670 [0x7fe542472b00] DEBUG - Request: [192.168.3.104:51354 (Subnet)] GET /video/:/transcode/universal/stop?session=pfpd2x3eyogcnvdfilna8h07 (6 live) #9206 GZIP Signed-in Token (peto495) (TV 2019)
It shows your TV told PMS to stop transcoding. I’m not sure why this happened. I’ll have to check with the devs to see if they can figure out why this stopped.
Having the same issue here too … will keep an eye on this topic
The issue still occurs for me on my Samsung TV. Spoke to one of my friends, who also has the same TV and he too is running into the same issue.
Thought perhaps transcoding was causing the issue being “too slow” (really wasn’t, since wasnt running into buffering issues), so i bought myself a GPU to go with hw transcoding (Quadro P620). It didn’t solve the issue, but it did alleviate the transcoding work off the CPU and videos do start quicker, so there’s that…
Do you have any news yet from the devs? This error is still happening when using the Samsung Plex app. In my case, always a short time before a video ends.
