I have an issue on my Samsung QA85Q60AASXNZ running Plex player version 5.30.1 where some files wont play. I have player version 5.29.1 running on my other Samsung TV UA75MU6100, connected to the same server, and this is playing the same files just fine.
I have updated the server and reinstalled the player app on the TV without success. I have also read and tried all of the suggestions regarding secure connections, but still cant get some files to play?
I get the following error;
Playback Error
An unexpected playback problem occurred.
Has anyone got this issue?
Server Version#: 1.25.3.5409-f11334058
Player Version#: 5.29.1 and 5.30.1
I have the same problem. I have checked if the movies can be played through my Apple TV app and that works well. My Samsung tv app however keeps on sending this message and the movies canât be played. I have tried updating everything, however it has not solved the issue. Please can someone let me know if there is a way to use the tvâs app?
Got the same problem. I have a movie which works on UE75NU7105, but on my QE75Q70 it does not work: Playback Error.
An unexpected playback problem occurred.
They are connected to the same Plex Server locally. They both run 5.30.1, but the QE75Q70 is using platform 6, and UE75NU7105 is using platform 4.
And I have problems changing audio track on movies on the QE75Q70, it only defaults to the first audio track in the movie container, even if I change and the client confirms an other track is chosen. I do not have this problem on the UE75NU7105 either.
I may have some solutions. For the choice of the audio track, there is a bug, you have to choose the right audio track before launching the movie.
For the problem âAn unexpected playback problem has occurred.â In the video quality of the film, choose the quality just below âoriginalâ or disable direct play.
Thanks @Smokez33. Adjusting the video quality didnât work. However, disabling direct play allowed the files to play. However, there was a lot of buffering and any skipping resulted in the Plex circle for 10 seconds or so (a assume buffering?). As per my original question, theser files are working fine on another Samsung TV, so im not sure if this is due to the TV hardware or a bug in Plex?
ok. what is your connexion?
for me, my TV is connected with a cable to internet. (before my tv was in wifi and i had a lot of buffering with 4k video).
My pc is in wifi.
Sometimes subtitles make some problems on Tizen. I dont know whyâŠ
I have the same issue claimed here âAn unexpected playback problem occurred. â, and I can say that definitely is not from network side. Something related to the application . In Samsung application store is listed the following: Latest Version: 5.10.0(5.10.0 installed. Updated 22/04/2021
If there someone who can support in this issue?
My TV is QE65Q950T OS Tizen
Itâs not the network as I have the TV cables to a gig switch and the NAS connected to the same switch. As I said before the other TV is connected in the same way and playing fine.
This Samsung playback error issue has been going on for months now. Plex doesnât seem to give an appropriate answer of the problem. They say theyâre working on fixing it but since itâs been months, I donât see this being corrected anytime soon. The best solution is to discontinue using the Samsung Plex app and purchase another streaming stick. Iâm pretty pissed off about this because half of my Plex users use Samsung TVs and have complained that they canât play most of my content. I have to tell them that itâs a Samsung issue and that they need to go out an buy new streaming devices. This is a huge mess.
Youâre not alone, I am also pissed right off with this and irritated to hell at this point.
I personally feel that itâs about time Plex puts a little more effort, maybe some thought and likely some care into trying to resolve this issue for us or maybe those of us who bought the lifetime plexpass may need to give their respective credit card companyâs a call to get their money back as whatever it was we purchased, just doesnât work and is obviously broken!
Iâm as patient as the next guy, but Iâve dealt with this crap long enough now. And although I havenât created a post (yet, but I intend on it. Maybe a post or ten a day to get some attention) I feel Iâve gone through every potential avenue at fixing this problem without any resolve.
In fact, in a house with 4 Samsung Smart TVâs (and much like @brewedcoffee have many users who also use the Samsung App) It wasnât until last night when I ran a very quick ffmpeg command on one of my titles to see how things would work, have I been able to play any content whatsoever that isnât local to me. Essentially, 1 file both remote server and a local server, why is it that the title can only play when itâs local to me? Makes absolutely no sense at all that this title canât play from my Dedi to my home but has no issues playing over my local network.
So I beg of you, Plex Staffers, PLEASE for the love of christ drop the whole developing âcoolâ abd âfunkyâ asthetics and please fix this ASAP! Nobody really WANTS to move their libraries over to something like emby or jellyfin, but when you ignore (what I like to think is a fairly major issues considering the brand of TV), then Iâm sure you leave people no choice.

I as well am having this issue, but itâs only when playing live TV from my HD Homerun. I can watch DVRd programs and all of my pre-recorded items just fine.
Thankfully, we never watch anything live so itâs not that bad of an issue, but Iâd still like it to work the way it should.
Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309
Player Version#:5.10.0 for Samsung Smart TV
TV Model Un40MU7000
Hi,
Had the same problem for the last couple of months only on my Samsung TV . Enabling âUse alternate streaming protocol for video playbackâ in âDebugâ greatly reduces the error âfor meâ.
Tested for a day with it disabled and enabled, it does make a difference âfor meâ.
Also I noticed in my logs the following:-
âERROR - Unable to find client profile for device; platform=Tizen, platformVersion=4, device=18_KANTME_UHD, model=UE55NU7400â
I may be mistaken here, but I was under the impression that option only affected playback from within a web browser i.e. chrome, chromium type browsers. I donât recall seeing the option in the app on the tv.
The error regarding the client profile, honestly, makes absoluely no sense to me. I assume youâre running docker containers, as am I. I see that error constantly, but whatâs funny and doesnât make a whole lot of sense to me, is that if you exec into the container and look under lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Profiles/ youâll see a whole ton of Profiles, including;
âSamsung SmartTV.xmlâ
âSamsung Tizen.xmlâ
I would think that these one of these profiles would apply to most installs when using a TV running TizenâŠ
The one thing Iâve noticed, as Iâve switched for the most part from running my personal media remotely to using a local server, is that with the use of a local server the issues are essentially gone. When I attempt playback of the same Media File ( since at the end of the day this is simply a second plex instance, using the same Libraries) from the Library of the remote plex instance is that it dies out 9/10 times with that generic error.
And itâs important to note that the device affected by this is only the Samsung Smart TVâs. Both my own and my users.
Hi,
Iâm running a Virtual (XCP-ng) Win10 x64 Plex Server (Version 1.25.6.5577), so no dockers.
I canât explain why changing that setting âimprovesâ the problem (doesnât fix it).
Possibly coincidence, but throughout a day I turned it on and off. The playback error occured alot less with the setting enabled.
This has only started in the last couple of months. All the other TVâs, laptops and phones in my home and remotely, work fine regardless, except my Samsung TV.
After Iâve tried the lastest version (1.25.7.5604 at the time of writing) to see if the problems been fixed or not, I may experiment and roll back to an earlier version of the server (Nov/Dec 2021), just to see how far back the error goes back to.
