Unexpected Playback Error Has Occurred in Samsung Smart TV QN55Q60RAFXZA

When did the issue start to occur? 2023-05-17

What is the issue? When attempting to play any media i.e. TV Shows, Movies, Live TV etc. etc., the Plex Client App throws the error “Unexpected Playback Error Hass Occurred”. The Plex Client App becomes unresponsive and I have to kill the app.

What troubleshooting steps have been taken? I have ensured that the PMS setting Secure connects = Preferred. In the Plex Client App, I have ensured that both the Allow Insecure/Prefer Insecure Connections is set to Always.

I have uninstalled the Plex Client App several times. I have hard rebooted the Samsung TV several times. Once I uninstall, the Plex Client App will work initially but upon exiting the Plex Client App and returning, the behavior returns.

I have observed that Plex Android App, Chrome Browser, Brave Browser & Roku all currently work. I have another Samsung TV, which I believe is actually older does still work. Network settings are good, other streaming services and an alternative to Plex (installed as a backup and testing) works on the Samsung TV that is having the issue.

Please advise, as I have exhausted all troubleshooting techniques.

I have attached the DEBUG logs here:

I have had the same problem with Plex on my Samsung TV for a long time as well, with no fix working for me. I finally noticed, though, that every movie/tv show that it happened on was in avi format. I converted them all to mp4 and have not had any more trouble at all. I used DVDFab’s file converter, specifically the mp4 passthrough, which changes nothing except the file type, and is extremely fast. I am sure any converter that will change it to mp4 or other file type would probably work as well, but that is what worked for me.

I had issues with Live TV, so it wasn’t a playback issue, I believe it was a permissions issue.

What has resolved the issue for me is doing the below:
