Android App Bug – Audio Language Preference Ignored During Direct Play on Samsung Note S25 Ultra

Hi Plex Support,

I’m experiencing a bug on the Plex Android app that affects audio language preferences when Direct Play is enabled.

  • Device: Samsung Note S25 Ultra
  • Android App Version: 2025.21.0
  • Plex Server Version: Version 1.41.9.9961
  • Container: MKV
  • Video Codec: HEVC (H.265)
  • Audio: Multiple audio tracks present (English + secondary language)

Issue:
Despite having my preferred audio language selected in the app and global server settings, Plex always plays the first audio track (English) when Direct Play is enabled. This issue is specific to the Android app only.

When I disable Direct Play in the Android app settings, Plex correctly selects the second audio track as intended. The issue does not occur on Plex for PC or Web — only on Android with Direct Play active.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Enable Direct Play in the Plex Android app
  2. Play a HEVC MKV file with multiple audio tracks
  3. Observe that the first audio track plays, ignoring language preference
  4. Disable Direct Play and retry — the preferred audio track is now selected correctly

It appears the Android app is not applying audio language preferences during Direct Play sessions. Please let me know if this is a known issue or if additional logs would be helpful — I can provide them upon request.

Thank you for your time and support!

Android devices in my household were also having this issue. Disabling Direct Play as you stated fixed it. Thank you for this.
