Android app prevents sleep

Server Version#: nvidia shield v1.19.5.3112
Player Version#: android 8.4.2.19372

Over the last three updates if I start playing a video and leave it running, after the video finishes the “Play Next” screen stays on and my phone won’t go to sleep. Autoplay next is disabled.

I am experiencing the same issue and same process. I have the auto play off and the play next is on the screen and my tablet won’t sleep

Player Version: 8.4.2.19372
Samsung Tab S4

I have the same issue.
Auto play: off
When a video finish, the plex app is (apparently) waiting to click to watch the next video.
When I go to home screen (Android TV), there is a notification, the plex app is still streeming, but it doesn’t.
The Nvidia never go to sleep mode.

PS: Sorry for my english

Steps to be followed:

  1. Go to Settings app and find Battery Optimization in the Apps section.
  2. At the top of the screen, tap “Not Optimized” and then tap “All apps.” You should now see a list of all the apps on your phone. Each app is marked “Allowed” or “Not allowed.” Allowed means that your phone is allowed to put the app to sleep when it’s in the background.
  3. Find an app that you don’t want to go to sleep, and tap it. In the pop-up, choose “Don’t allow” and confirm your choice by tapping “OK.”

I tried this last night and it doesn’t seem to be working. Problem persists.

For something that is not free (I’m paying for the Plex Pass), having such issues as app not going to sleep is kind of a deal breaker. I had this issue on my old phone Galaxy S8+, after a while it was fixed and on my new Note10+ at the beginning it was all good but for at least 3-4 months it’s back again. Tried the optimize battery stuff, played with every setting in the plex app/server/phone I could think of and same result.
This is wrong on so many levels:

  1. Battery usage and wear on the long term. I’m pretty careful with this aspect as I tend to discharge my device once a day and I hate it when after 1,5 years it goes from full day usage to twice a day charging. The app draining battery for screen-on while idle accounts for ~15-20% a day of my battery usage, that’s 1 charge out of 5, which is a lot to pay for on a missing feature/bug via plexpass and indirectly by having to change the battery or device more often.
  2. My screen is Oled so potential burn in time (yes I usually go to sleep watching stuff on Plex). I know the chances are not very high but together with the battery part above it kind of adds up to potentially ruining my device for literally nothing -idle screen on
  3. If there’s a technical limitation then fine, I get it, just disclose it and people can make their choice. But don’t just break/fix/break a feature like it’s a yo-yo and still expect people to go with it, that’s not ok. Just be transparent and up-front about things that can and can’t be done and more than likely the outcome will be far better for Plex than having to deal with people that are already pissed off and being kept in the dark.

I’m sorry if my post sounds more like a rant, but I really like Plex and giving this feedback hoping that it will help in some way, if not in solving technical issues then maybe in communications and customer centric focus.

Hellooooo, Plex Support, at least a sorry we’re working on it would be nice!!!

Hi HyperMP, a plex employee did reply on another thread that they would be working on a fix in an upcoming release

Can you please share the link to that topic? 3 months later…my batery is at 96% health, mostly due to plex draining it each night with screen on.

I thought I linked to this thread in my original reply: Phone stays on after playing video until battery is completely drained - #51 by CAMattelaer
