While plenty has been posted about Android Auto very little has been written about Android Automotive. I really believe there is a huge oppertunity here for Plex that I for one would really love. There was @achelous that created a topic almost a year ago but no response, but with a very valid point: if you are charging your car, you want to use plex for sure. There arent a lot of cars yet, but Polestar 2 is sold out for this year as is the Volvo XC40 P8 which both run it and even more manufacturers are gearing up for releases in 2021. Wouldnt it be cool if Plex could be the main media app on Android Automotive before others catch on?!
Anyway, long story short: please support this OS. It would be awesome.
Is there a way to get this post featured? With Google switching to YouTube Music there are lots of people looking for media solutions which allow users to house their own, or upload, music. I use Plex for media streaming now and would love to use the music features but they are severely lacking compared to other players. The Plex app does show up on Android Auto and I can play songs from a playlist but there is a long list of missing basic features and functional problems with the app. I have a software development background and would love to help test or contribute ideas to the development of the music play, specifically the Android Auto functionality.
I would also like Plex on Android Automotive as my XC40 P8 will arrive sometime in 2021 and at present Polestar 2 does not support USB stick music, so if this has not been addressed by Volvo in this “sibling” I will need a cloud service anyway. Would prefer it to be Plex to see my 50K tracks!
Would also love an app for Android Automotive. I drove a Polestar 2 and a Plex app would be great. I can imagine that Google wont allow a full Plex app (because of the Automotive restrictions) but for me personally the Plex AMP app would be enough and really fantastic.
How difficult would it be to port the ‘Android Auto’ app to ‘Android Automotive’?
