Android Beta 7.24 - bugs list

Adding to the list of bugs,

Amazon Fire TV 4K stick second gen, Plex player crashes when either “Refresh Rate Switch” or “Resolution Switch” is enabled, Debug attached.

CrashDebug.txt (1.2 MB)

2 bugs regarding subtitles

  • subtitles > more > subtitle search > no keyboard pops up trying to edit search string

  • subtitles > more > subtitle search > default search string uses filename however when filename include (year) prevents any subtitle results

a better default subtitle search might be seriesname - episodetitle instead of the filename or seriesname - s##e## - episodetitle

another bug

  • post play screen stays in same resolution/refresh rate, only after pressing back does screen resolution/refresh reset

This has been fixed in the latest beta.

We’ve restored this in the latest beta!

This is the expected behaviour, the post play won’t change resolution / refresh-rate until you switch to another video that has a different resolution / framerate, or you back out of the player. This is so it’s a nicer experience when watching episodes or content in a play-queue.

Could you share logs with me when playback fails?

When you see this issue again, would you be able to share the logs with me?

Unless your TV remote passes the record button into Android then sadly there’s nothing we can do to use the button press.

Not sure I follow, are you suggesting the On Deck hub is shown underneath the player for quicker access?

The new UI aims to be simpler, however we are going to introduce some Nerd Statistics that can be optionally enabled and have all the playback info (and some more) available.

The Live TV issues are being investigated and will be fixed before the beta ends, for now you can restore smooth Live TV playback by lowering the quality so that PMS transcodes the video down.

So here are the player logs androidtvLogging.txt (60.5 KB)
error seems to be here:

11-04 13:45:04.898 e: [Exo2VideoPlayer] Player error detected
11-04 13:45:04.898 e: An exception occurred: com.google.android.exoplayer2.i: com.google.android.exoplayer2.b.v: Unsupported channel count: 0
11-04 13:45:04.911 e: Stacktrace: com.google.android.exoplayer2.i: com.google.android.exoplayer2.b.v: Unsupported channel count: 0

and the xml of the file in case thats of any help: vidfile.txt (4.1 KB)

I put the Video file onto a local server running on my MacBook with no other files or Libraries on the server.
Started to play the video with the AndroidTV App, played as normal. Changed the settings so it would try and transcode. Caused the playback error.

This is actually a great idea.

But I suspect the OP meant at the POST-PLAY screen.

Adding ON DECK to both player and post-play, would be very convenient.

Would you be able to share a sample of that video with me as it gives us another data point. This issue is being investigated at the moment and will hopefully be fixed soon.

In that case, it will be there at some point! We will be adding more content like ondeck to the postplay and / or underneath the player controls. On Deck would likely be on the postplay only.

the reason on deck under the player would be great is so that user can skip to the next on deck item without stopping playback or waiting for the credits/video to end.

not everyone wants to binge watch the same series, but like watching multiple series, one episode at a time/sitting

for example, I have at least 3 series that I am re-watching, I do not necessarily want to contiguously watch the same series, I want to move horizontally across the on deck, like watching live TV.

Thanks we are investigating.

Interesting use case, will pass this onto the UX team, it might be something we add in both places just because we can. :slightly_smiling_face:

I really like the new UI. Thanks. Just one bug/request. Please add the season and episode number to the main screen.

Awesome idea. I often use Plex in that exact scenario.

Agreed.

Hi - I had the issue again this morning, but unfortunately my client logging wasn’t on. I turned on the client logging but was unable to reproduce the issue. I had some other weird problems though. Maybe the Retry/Cancel dialog issue may be useful even without the client side logs?

I’ll attach logs and here are my notes:

9:23 - No client side logging was enabled. I selected Resume, but it played from the start. I attempted to skip forward and got a retry/cancel popup
9:27 - All logging on, selected resume, spinning circle and never played.
9:28 - Pressed the back button and tried again, selected resume, but it played from start, skipping backward and forward worked this time
9:30 - Pressed the back button and tried again, selected resume, spinning circle for quite a while, gave up and hit the back button
9:31 - Pressed the back and tried again, played from start, attempted to skip forward, went to a black screen and never came back (if i press down on the remote arrow keys the player controls are visible and it looks like it had skipped forward)
9:35 - Went to check if I was running the latest version of Plex (I was), switched back to Plex, resume worked this time
9:36 - end

There’s a bug on the latest beta on android tv version 7.24.0.13466 on the nvidia shield tv 2019 tube. Where if you’re playing a movie and you press the gear icon to change the quality of the film it crashes the app. I’m using the old player instead of the beta player by the way.

I tried the latest Beta, it still crash when either options is selected.

Sixones, are you going to fix before the final build or not plans to fix it in this release?

Do you guys have any word on a fix for this?

Can report the latest beta (7.24.0.13532) does indeed seem to have solved my issue.

And out of curiosity, was the issue impacting the subtitle detection as the files are now showing srt files where as before (I think) it was showing a different type of subtitles, but I can not remember which.

Thanks anyways
