I tried on an Android tablet and it is worse: clicking the download button does nothing at all!
Download works fine on PC though.
I subscribe to Plex pass only for that functionnality :-/
I am having the same issue. Anyone have a fix? This problem is on every mobile device, Fire tablet, Chromebook, Android and IOS. Download does work with Windows and Mac. I just used the download feature with traveling a few months ago. I am on the same LAN as server so the downloads should be quick. The downloads just flash “initializing download” over and over and then gives an error in the downloads library list.
Have the same issue on android 9.8.2.35221 with a local WIFI connection…
My findings until now are that if I tick the box for allowing downloading on Mobile data and disable WIFI it works. So at least I can see that this is not a storage issue on my mobile device.
Second I tried it on my IOs device version 8.9 with the same WIFI settings and it works without issues…so I can also exclude a newtwork error.
Perhaps this helps to get some ideas what else can be checked.
Maybe I found a solution for Android which worked fine for me. Deactivate wireless and search Movies to download via Mobile Network. Don’t activate “download via Mobile Network” and keep the Plex Media Server open. The Movie will be added to download and will start when WiFi is active. Then activate Wireless again and the download will start without any issue.
Thank you very much for the hint! This workaround is working also for me. Have just still issues with large 4K files (small 4K files are fine), but will investigate into it.
The workaround works for me too!
Still, it is crazy that such a workaround is needed for one of the main features of the (paying) Plex pass. Did they even test it on Android?
I am very happy that it also works for others , even it is a really bad programming . Also many of my movies don’t run good on Android but on Chromecast or PC they do. Same with subtitles. I hope they will reprogramming the Android App soon. I am not satisfied with the problems of the Android App and it is strange that the Chromecast App works better even ist is also Android. It stops me thinking about buying a lifetime pass.
This is really interesting. Might give it a go. I just came up with another workaround I wanted to share. I plugged my phone into the server with a USB, shared it’s network with it and then disabled the normal server network. I guess it’s now using a loopback address in the phone and downloading GB of albumns quickly and painlessly as it should on a wifi network. I tried the Windows App which just seems to be an electron app and that downloads fine over wifi. I think they may even have sorted the iOS version so Android is a little in the cold.
Unfortunately this workaround did not work for me. I am running Version 1.29.0.6244 on my Plex Media Server and 9.9.0.35519 on my Android phone. I definitely had successful downloads earlier this year but I am not sure how many months ago it stopped working. I do have a VPN and use Avast as my antivirus and firewall, which I found online could cause problems, however with both running the files download fine on IOS and with both turned off it still doesn’t work on my Android. I tried changing my DNS settings on my ISP-provided modem, which was a suggestion on Reddit that worked for others, but this still didn’t work for me.
