Download broken on Android App

Server Version#: 1.25.5.5492
Player Version#: 8.29.1.30697

Hi.
I believe i’ve found a bug in the Android Plex application (which has resolved by downgrading to an older version of the app).

When using the download functionality. Downloads never seem to progress beyond “waiting to download” regardless of quality, cellular etc.

I downgraded my apk to a version of the Plex app from December, and instantly downloads worked fine. I know I’m not alone in this issue looking at this Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/sthpsx/stuck_on_waiting_to_download/

Please let me know if you need any extra information to assist with resolving the bug.

Thanks

I’ve got the same issue. Any update on this? Running the latest on an old Galaxy Tab A I use for travel, but recently it’s become less useful due to this issue. Running 8.31.2.31546.

The topic is known bit the Dev are not responding to the latest number of Threads…

Just check how many have reported that issue (and think how many have not reported, but experience it)…

One solution is to disable WLAN before you start syncing and once started, enable it again.

A second is to do some router/dns configuration…

I am concerned this forum is Plex staff free, would really love to get some attention and an official response on this. Rather than having in the last update of PMS some changes with less value than this feature

Every update has fixes for bugs no one has ever heard of, yet the major stuff like episodes not being marked play and the home screen scrolling not working are left years later. Its insane. But thabk god we have the new discover feature. I can guarentee you, close to no one is searching netflix or hbo max in the plex app. Pointless.

Still happening.

Still happening. Using a Pixel 6 and having really inconsistent luck with downloads.
Managed to get some downloaded but that seems to be a fluke as I am now stuck again.
I have tried to use a third party DNS and turning off wifi before building the download queue with no real luck.

I have taken to transfering files over to my internal storage and using VLC to watch media. But I didnt pay for that though did i? I hate that I am forced to use other apps for what should just be working in Plex to begin with.

I think its really stupid we pay for Plex, and yet we get ignored on issues like this. But thank god they added discovery. Cant want to add Disney+ and Netflix, said no plex user ever.

I’m having the same issue. This is really disappointing. Really makes me regret having paid for this when this is the kind of effort that ia put onto making the software actually work…

Can confirm downloads are actually working on 8.27.0.29542
Haven’t tested any other versions.

I’ve been trying for like 3 hours to get any download working on 9.5.0.33736.

Update: Download still does not work correctly.
600 mbps download over cellular, cellular download enabled and the download never starts.

It just sits on “Waiting to Download” forever.

@anon18523487 Just randomly tagging, any chance we can get someone to actually fix app breaking bugs?

i still can confirm Download in Plex for Android is broken.
Plexamp on Android (10) is working fine.
Plex on iOS is also working fine.

It looks, possibly, like the Plex app is simply ignoring the download over cellular flag.

I have managed to successful start a download for a music album while on wifi, but it is now stalled on cellular.

@Superfish1000 Please provide logs. Many people were actually reporting the opposite. Works on cellular, not on WiFi, so this is something new.

My cellular is horrible now, but I’ll try to get some more when I have a good signal.

Also, I have managed to get a download going by enabling “Mobile data only” option for Plex. I spent several hours attempting to download anything the other day and had no success.

Downloads attempted from several different servers. One server at home, another in a datacenter.
No change.
Rebooted servers. No change.

plex-log-Superfish1000.zip (1.6 MB)

Bumping this one. I’m trying to download a season of a tv show on my own network - it stalls after each episode. So a Plex server restart is required for each episode.

This is ridiculous at this point. Sync barely worked, this barely works. Why is this so hard?

Android 11
Plex Server 1.28.0.5999
Plex for Android 9.6.0.34218

Sorry, lost track of this thread. Your logs show that the app is waiting on your server. It is trying to download a show but it needs them transcoded. If you still have this issue, can you retry downloading again and get me a new android log and a new server log so I can check what your server is doing.

Please provide the android log and the server log if they still have the info. If not, please reproduce and get me new logs.

Hello,

I am running Plex app on Android (version 9.11.0.36101) and Plex Server on an Nvidia Shield (version 1.29.1.6313). My Downloads never work. They always do a quick (2 seconds) “Waiting to download” and that disappears. While that happens, on the notifications I see an “Initializing downloads”, and then disappears as well.

I have cleared the cache and data of my Plex app, removed/re-added the Files and Media storage permission, reinstalled the app, restarted the phone, attempted different types of items (shows or movies), toggled the “Use mobile data” option, tried while on WiFi (in and out of the network where the server is), mobile, WiFi VPN, mobile VPN, and nothing has helped. The results are always the same: no downloads happen. On the dashboard, there server shows no activity. Help, please!

Thanks,
Dioshy
