I have the problem that since the latest update to 8.7 the player of my TV does not continue to run every time the TV comes out of standby.
Before that you could watch the TV without problems and everything was running. Now it just doesn’t work anymore. You can see how the buffer fills up and you can also rewind but it doesn’t run. It does not play anything anymore. Even if you go back to the menu and want to play something else. The player does nothing more, nothing can be played. The only thing that is useful is a complete restart of the TV by pulling the plug.
Something seems to have gone wrong with the latest update. Before this worked without problems. It happens with all players, Sony TV and Nvidia Shield I own.
I’m not able to reproduce. I tested on my Shield and things play fine even after I let it sit and enter sleep mode.
The only thing I can think is to make sure your server has a static IP address. The app caches information about your server, so if your server changes IPs while the device is sleeping, it may still be looking for the server at the old address.
So the problem could be solved with Nvidia Shield with a new installation.
But the problem still occurs with Sony TV. The problem seems to be the video player. In the app I can move normally and the title music is played, but when I want to start it is stuck at 0.00 and nothing moves.
After a restart of the TV or unplugging it, it works again.
As I said, it only appears since the new version. Before I could switch off in the middle of an episode, start again and it went on 1:1 without interruption or other problems.
So in the meantime 2 of my users have contacted me who have the same problem with their Android TV players. One is an Android TV Box with Android 8 installed and the latest version of the app.
The other one is a Sony TV with Android 9 and the latest app.
All have the same problem that it won’t start after standby. Also other videos cannot be started. Like my black picture. But you can only fast forward to still picture. After cold start of the respective devices it also works again.
So it seems to hang up the player effectively.
Please contact the Plex team if you can fix this, with the penultimate version it still worked everywhere.
I am having the same issue with my Sony X900 on Android 8. Not sure on what Plex version it started but my TV will not allow me to play any episode after the TV has entered standby. I have tried force stopping the app, reinstalling the app, and a complete TV restore to factory settings and a reinstall and I still have the issue. The only way that I can get Plex to resume play is to do a full shutdown and restart.
The problem seems to affect smaller Android TV boxes and Sony TV’s, at least the feedback of my users.
It’s a pity that nothing is done. Since it worked before version 8.7, something must have been changed. It’s a pity that the bug is now simply ignored.
Can you reproduce the problem or have your user do it and get me the log from the app? I’m still unable to reproduce so it will be hard to give info to the devs without something to go on. Please let me know what video is being played.
