Player Version#: 8.20.1
Unfortunately, there are problems with Sony TV’s for months and namely it is very troublesome to play things.
Auto Play does not work at all, because the buffering wheel just spins without end.
But even if you start the episodes manually, it happens again and again that he spins without end and then you often have to restart the app or sometimes the whole TV to continue watching.
It does not matter whether local or remote. We have tested both. Other Android devices also do not have these errors. Neither an Nvidia Shield that is still available locally nor various Android phones have such problems. So it must be related to the TVs.
But since both devices (Shield and TV) have version 9 of Android, it can’t really be due to that either. I suspect otherwise a bug because it only appears for a few months and is actually getting worse from version to version. Partially, you now have to restart 4-5x and back again, etc. until you can watch an episode again.
So the player is absolutely not to use. Please correct this again.
Attached we have 2 logs: once from a friend who watches remotely and once from me local:
I’ve taken a look at your logs and it seems like ExoPlayer wasn’t able to release the decoder on your device which explains why it takes you so many attempts to play an episode, by the time it works the decoder has successfully released.
Hmm… any quick way to sideload that version app on a sony bravia? Ive had problems with plex not playing files for some time now, would love this to get fixed.
Edit: alright, got it installed. And i’ll be damned, so far the app actually works again. Minimal testing so far of course, but it actually plays videos again. Including the next episode thing! Well, i’ll immediately turn off automatic app updates on my TV and keep my fingers crossed. I’ll report back if my optimism was premature.
After a few days of testing I can confirm that 8.22.0.26870 solves all the playback issues on my Sony Android TV. Excellent! Will this fix be included in the next official release of the app?
It will be sent to beta next week, and then 2 weeks later it will be deployed as the normal release that is available from Google Play and other stores.
Unfortunately, I have not had much time and the colleague is on vacation. Therefore only a feedback from me.
So the start works now, even if it still takes 4-5 seconds until it starts, which is much longer compared to mobile or Nvidia Shield, as it max. 0.5-1.5 seconds.
But what still doesn’t work for me on TV is starting a series or movie that stopped in the middle. So on it goes, it continues to spin endlessly in circles. If you start again from the beginning, then it runs.
I will be able to test a bit more intensively next week and in 10 days the colleague is back and will then also test and then I send new logs.
Is there any solution for this? I have been struggeling with this problem for over 4 months now…
The APK isn’t Available anymore, and i just updated Plex with the last release that was released 16/9. I have v 8.23.0.27973
Is there anyone that found à solution for this?
Please!
Same, I tested a later version two weeks ago and the issue was still not fixed. This can’t be unfixable, every other app runs and plays fine on this TV. Kodi for example will play pretty much anything. Only Plex seems to work extremely poorly on Sony TVs.
I sure hope someone is working on this, just like you Said - it’s working fine on other devices… Getting pretty annoying that you can’t watch tv or movies the last months…
How about more of you send some logs? The more the programmers see, the sooner they can possibly do something. I’ve been waiting for a solution for months and now the problem is also appearing more and more with the Nvidia Shield, even if it often works directly on the 2nd attempt. With the Sony TV but still partly infinite. Had it already that it took more than 10 starts until it started. But again it needs more logs so please send them here so you can take a look.
I am disappointed that in 4 versions you have not managed to address the problem at least somewhat. Your test version made it a little better but this was never carried over into the final versions and since new numbers came in it was overwritten again and now this problem is getting worse. As written it has now even reached the flagship player Shield. Not as bad as the Sony TV’s but already annoying.
I too am waiting for a reply to my post here from the Plex devs about my issue on Nvidia shield. i have so many random weird bugs with Plex android. Plex for Android is just straight broken in general I’ve found. It’s incredibly frustrating because literally the only reason that I bought a shield was for plex…
The test version I previously posted contains a new demuxer which seems to solve the problem, however it introduces some new issues that haven’t yet been solved so it’s not made it into the release yet.
What I do when it does this. Is change down to quality 2mb and then as soon as it loads, change it back up to original quality and it works most of the time. I have had so many of these kinds of issues on Android TV. Buffering and not loading, skipping ahead or backwards and it never recovers (buffering constantly). Up next or autoplay never work, constantly buffer. I have to go back twice and click on the episode to play it from the start. Sometimes it won’t update that an episode that I have started watching and backed out of. It thinks I have never watched it and tries to start it from beginning. So I have to back all the way out and then go back in. Subtitles sometimes won’t display and no matter what subtitle I choose it does nothing (even if I download them). I have tested the subtitles to make sure they work on something else. It’s really quite frustrating. I have one TV connected via LAN and another by wifi (5ghz) and both display same issue (Sony TV’s).
