I’m opening a new thread on this since the other one is being ignored.
Ever since the update to 6.13.0 Plex and the new video player, certain h.264 videos crash all my Android devices ranging from my Sony TV’s running Android TV to my Samsung Android tablets and Nexus and Samsung phones.
This has been broken for more then a year. I’ve really don’t watch much on my tablets for phones, but I watch Plex on my Sony Android TV’s all the time. Mywork around was to roll back to 6.12 on the Sony TVs and disable auto updates (as many others have on this forum). The other work around is to use the Kodi (Updated to Leia this morning) app with the Plex plugin, which works fine, even with 4K and no grey bar issue
Sony pushed out a new update to Android Oreo 8.0 to the Sony Z9D this morning. I turned on auto updates and let Plex update to the latest version and it proceeds to crash. Changing h.264 levels or audio pass through does not make a difference. Tested on my mobile devices and it also crashes.
So I’ve paid for Plex Pass. I’ve been patient in trying to get this fixed. The Wife Acceptance Factor (WAF) is pissed at having paid for Plex Pass when this is not being fixed.
There is nothing special about my h.264 files. Every video player I have on my computers, portable devices, other streaming devices, play back these files just fine. All except Plex since 6.13.0.
I’ve sent the problem files to the devs and it seems to go into a black hole. Nothing gets fixed. In the Sept news letter, it was mentioned “We’ve convened a similar squadron of sauron-eyed swashbucklers to kill bugs in the new Android player engine.” Well, this bug must be in Davy Jones’ locker.
If you cannot tell, I’m loosing patience with this. Having no public bug tracker also infuriates me. With Plex concentrating on adding more and more useless features such as News and not fixing the core component of Plex of watching video content just boggles my mind.
Devs, if you want a copy of the problem h.264 files again, let me know.
I’m attaching new logs:
