The cog gives you access to the playback settings, the 3 dot menu gives you access to other things like playback info or jumping to the preplay of the item your watching.
I’ve passed this onto UX as feedback.
Chapters are below the player controls and above the play queue. It’s most likely that we don’t have chapters for the video you are watching.
it would be great if in videos without pre-defined chapters, if plex provide 10 or 15 minute jump ‘virtual chapters’ with the thumbnails, instead of having to drag the slider across a large portion, just to get to a specific point (forwards or backwards) from the current position.
maybe even the ‘virtual chapters’ could be smart, and adjust size according to the video length…
Thanks! I do want to make sure it’s clear that the issue I’m seeing is distinct from stuttery playback that other users are reporting. I cannot recover Live TV playback by changing quality because playback never actually starts. However, I have seen stuttery playback on interlaced content (from Live TV or DVR) that manifests after 15 minutes of uninterupted playback that can only be resolved by skipping forward or back. This is not releated to this beta, though, and I believe appeared around the time of the latest SHIELD experience update.
We do have seek previews so you can see where you are seeking too (need to enable them on PMS). Auto generated chapters is something we have looked into before but it’s quite tricky as we would want them to be placed at nice locations throughout the video. Might be something that we bring out in the future.
Could you create a new thread with your Live TV issue if it’s different to the one described in this thread as this thread is mostly about the new player.
Sorry to confuse. The lack of Live TV playback is specific to the 7.24 beta and directly related to this thread (I started this thread with that report after all). I just wanted to clarify that the stuttering that @damonc_nz reported is not the issue I originally reported with this thread.
sure seek previews are great, if/when you want fine grain seeking.
virtual chapters or jump spots would allow seeking over larger sections vs the smaller jumps of timeline seeking.
In the case of videos without built in chapters, I do not believe that attempting to find some ‘nice’ locations is as important as the ability to seek forward/rewind in larger segments than the seek bar navigation provides.
Ah sorry I’ve got confused, thread has grown a bit off topic. To work around playback not starting for Live TV, you can go into the Plex settings (not during playback) and lower the quality, then Live TV should work. We are working on a solution at the moment though and it will be fixed before v7.24 goes live.
I’m having the same problem as @astephon88 is having with Live TV on 7.24 - never starts, failing with the same error message as reported. Can you please point to where the Live TV quality setting is? Thanks.
With the previous I could hold on the arrow key to fast forward with thumbnails
No with new UI it skip by 30s only. ok it was made for that
So now I have to use the new (more beautiful and responsive) timeline
But it needs to arrow down one time then up another time to get in
Why not have different behaviour for up and down key ?
Down you get buttons (actual behaviour)
Up you get directly timeline
It will be simplier and quicker
I was wondering about this too. Early last month there was a server update that included this.
(BIF) Improved performance when generating media indexes (#10455)
So I’m now curious if this simply involved increasing the time between each VP Thumb generation.
EDIT. Not a complaint in any way. Since I recently moved from local to cloud storage its a very smooth experience and I can live with 30 second intervals.
Actually never mind. I just generated some thumbs for a TV show and they are at 10 seconds, whilst the movie I tested was at 30 seconds. Perhaps the generation intervals depend on the playback duration of the file.
I will have to get logs but randomly chapter section does not seem to be loading, not sure of the rhyme or reason why sometimes chapters dont show up and other times show up just fine.
Are your Dolby Vision files single layer.
If they are dual layer they currently will not play Dolby Vision on any device other than some smart TV apps.
LG, Sony and maybe a few others.
Yeah.
And to be a little clearer because my initial wording was bad.
They will actually play as HDR but currently Plex on the Shied cannot read the second DV layer.
Weird chapters are currently showing up reliably using plex server on windows pc, when I switch to plex server on the shield they might work for one movie, then they fail to load constantly.
