Android TV 9, Plex not working anymore

same here (Mi Box S 4k)!
Thank you!

it’s a global issue

could we know if PLEX devs work on it ? they tell us nothing.

new player doesn’t work for people who updated xiaomi mi box s to android 9.0
old player works but there is issue sometimes with it too.

Hi all!

I have the same problem (cant play anything with new player). I noticed that INSTEAD of turning off new player, if I switch:

  1. Advanced->Audio throughput HDMI and set it to disabled.
  2. Make sure the movie isnt loaded with subtitles activated.

I CAN play with new player!

Maybe Im having a different issue? Who knows. But this sure seem audio-related?

Google just released an update to AndroidTV, now Plex is not working at all (completely freezes on all videos)

it work’s for me now ! thanks @AL_MUALIAM

Try this test build instead of simply disabling the new player

After I reinstalled the app I can use the old player, the new is completely broken like Coxeroni said

I liked the new player  when can we turn it back on?

That is not what I said. It runs well on my Shield TV 2017.

As an update for this, we’ve identified the issue and a we are pretty confident about how to fix it (an internal build to check the solution has been shared in the link provided above). We are hoping to release a hotfix during this week with that. Thanks for your patience.

Sounds great

Hey all,
The issue has now been found to be a Secure Connections issue in PMS!! Turn off/Disable this in PMS and all your new players will play everything over WiFi Local and Remote again!!

Dave

Turning off secure connections for remote play is not the smartest of moves. For the home lan this shouldn’t be an issue though.

@Coxeroni You’re correct, but it’s just crazy to see that this is just part of the issue. The player on the phones still refuses to play AC3, MP3 and Unknown MP3 encoded video files where the Tablets just allow these.
It’s a strange bug, but haven’t we seen similar before?

Dave

Bugs happen, that is part of the game.
My android devices are fine, both locally and remotely. So it is not a general issue.

@Coxeroni I agree, bugs happen, being an ex Software developer who started losing his sight a while ago, I understand this part, bit I’m just amazed that they take a strange route to fix it.
The issue has affected MiBox users, Firestick users and a large number of Nvidia Shield and smartphone users. Oh and Tablet users, but I definitely don’t envy them trying to hunt this one down as it seems it’s part one issue and part another!
I have a large amount of stored films and TV shows across almost 20Tb, and lockdown has made my Plex server grow rapidly, anything to keep the family quiet, especially my Welsh girlfriend and the kids

Dave

I understand that people are not happy when they can’t play their media, especially these times. Still, I wanted to emphasize that not everybody is affected but merely certain configurations are. This makes it not easy to hunt down the root cause.
The dns rebind issues seem to be fixed with this test build, while others still exist.

Plex is in a difficult situation currently. They developed a lot of new features to attract new people and money, but seem to lack the man power to stomp out every fire there is swiftly. More features also mean more housekeeping and fixing.

The same is with device support. Plex supports so many different devices and not all behave accordingly.

It was working for some days, now it’s broken completely. Both old and new player fail to start anything (Error occurred, please try again later). This has been going for some days.

Hey everyone, was having the same issue with my mom box after I upgraded to android 9. I tried everything listed here, and none of it worked. Found that dropping the h264 level from 5.1 to 5.0 it works, with the new player and HDMI passthrough. Hope this helps someone else. Cheers!
