What error message do you get?
Also… what version of Plex for Android do you have installed on that MiBox?
See following topics,
the same issue for everyone.
change in plex settings to go back to old player - this fixes the issue until the bug is fixed.
Ah well, I was on MiBox S 9.0 Pie before and it was running fine (the pie version which I updated earlier this year, probably during February?)
I only got myself into trouble with PLEX right after I updated the latest patched version of Pie on my MiBox S like 2 days ago.
Some of my other streaming app for my telco doesn’t work either, no luck even after trying with multiple sideloaded versions.
Ah well… at least now I can still use Plex with the older player (changed in client setting)
Server Version#: 1.18.6.2368
Player Version#: 7.28.0.15501
I received this error today on my nvidia shield on a movie that my children have watched hundreds of times without any issues. The movie played fine on my phone and through the web and my xbox. The nvidia shield was the only streamer that would give me the error.
There are older posts in the forums that suggest a solution for android of turning on the “play smaller videos” setting. I tired that and still got the error.
So, after…
Error message : (in French)
You can’t read video … please restart apps or server … that’s all (it’s a sumup)
Version on Android TV
7.31.0.16802 (Last because I unsinstall/install it)
Android 9.0
PlexServer run on OpenMediaVault 4.1.35-1(Plugin Plex 3.8.2)
I just tried to all update / upgrade / reboot …
Still the same …
For information when I launch video from my cellphone … cast to tv … stop casting and play after directly with Android TV … It’s work …
So I should install PlexServer Standalone on lInux without openmediavault ? Other OS ?
Thanks again
Plex on XIami MiBox S stopped working after latest Android 9 Update, but thx to the reply here about disabling new player it worked again, thx!

Hey all…
Issue solved!! Turn off Secure Connections in the Network settings of PMS and you’ll be able to play videos again on your Android devices!!
This regression has gone on far to long… needs fixing, but at least we have a workaround!!
Dave
solved 100% when click play vdo
error massage
“An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try to restarting both The plex media server and this App.”
plex app(on miboxs)
settings>advance>Enable new video player=off
In which case you might want to share some more details about what videos the new player is failing to play. At some point the old one will be gone and the new player won’t be fixed if Plex doesn’t know there’s a specific issue with some configuration (player platform, Android version, version of Plex for Android, type of video that caused the trouble).
Fixed in a recent beta, I’m yet to try but one lad has reported its ok.
@ Uhakim
The download-links are in the beta-article here. Just click the ‘Release announcement’ header on the embedded article.
The new beta doesn’t seem to fix the issue. My Mi Box has been useless for a while now (more than a month) cause even with the old player Plex fails to reproduce some videos.
If Plex intends to use their clients as Testers, at least they could listen to them.
I’m playing with Emby anyway now…
Did you clear app data? (i’m still yet to try myself)
Nope, I might try later. Thanks!
Happy report I updated Plex from the Google Store just now (no beta) from my 8.0.2? Version to 8.1.0.17967 and the new video player is now working. I did force stop first and or after (not sure if required) but I didn’t have to clear any data or any extra steps.
