I have a Sony Bravia TV (A80J) with Plex android app installed and Plex Media Server running on an NUC6CAYH. Versions as above.
Problem I have noticed is that whilst I record TV programmes using PMS (with HDHOMERUN), and when broadcaster decides for some reason to broadcast TV in 1080i, The Plex app is always playing this back as - Direct Play, but unfortunately whilst it is in 1080i it does not play back very well - jerky or crashes the Plex app out and restarts itself, so I tried to search out if this can be force to transcoding, but I don’t see options to do this in Plex App on Sony TV. Yet when I play the same TV programme on my PC using Plex Media Player / or WEB, it does actually transcode, and plays back with no problem, which is what I expect to happen on the Sony TV using Plex android app.
Plex server option to transcode is enabled. This does work as proved above.
So question is why is it not transcoding 1080i programmes, this is not the first this has happened, and I have to resort to using PC to play back this file, and yet I can’t managed TV being recorded in 1080p all the time (as this is at broadcaster discretion) - which works fine 100% of the time!
Any solution to this or options i may have missed out?
