Android TV app unable to Play Live TV On Managed User Profile

Server Version#: 1.41.1.9057
Player Version#: 1.32.8.7639-fb6452ebf
Tuner Make/Model: HDHomeRun
Guide/Lineup name:
Using XMLTV?: Yes
Channel number/Name: All

Android TV will not play live tv for managed users unless users manually changes conversion settings or toggle’s captions. When the video does play after the previous actions, it usually plays with captions even if they are off. Admin user does not experience these issues. When selecting a channel, you receive a black screen with brief loading icon, and then nothing. Tuner admin panel shows that the tuner is active during this period.

Only network logs are available on this device.

Same problem here. Problem only occurs for a managed user on a google chromecast HD. the admin is fine.

@jeby6 This has been discussed at length in another thread, plex is flat out ignoring us. I will be seeking a class action lawsuit come march if they continue to ignore user complaints over this feature that we paid for.

FWIW, i found that there’s a second option that needed to be changed under “online media sources” to turn on live tv for managed users. This is in addition to enabling it from within the “Plex Home” area where you enable it for each user. AND also, if you enable the “Live TV with DVR” you need to make sure that your server has write access to the media library. I think that is what was causing issues as i had it set to read only.

These settings are already enabled for me, no difference

Well, I literally have it up and running on the family room tv, so it’s something on your end. I bet you dont have write access and have plex trying to use DVR. I have a read only setting on my NAS.

My recording directory has 777 permissions. Still cannot access Live from any profile except the admin. What system is your NAS? General consensus among everyone experiencing the issue is a Linux backend

Synology. Under control panel>shared folder>“your subject media folder”>permissions>system internal user is where synology grants access to plex

I have a Chromecast HD that was giving me the issue that you described, and the only change I made was to go from “live tv and DVR” to “live tv” only, and it immediately corrected itself (note I left access as read-only).

Switch to Live TV only also did not help my situation, its possible that Synology DSM is not similar enough to our OS to have the same issue

This does, however, lend credence to the idea that it is a permissions issue, not a ffmpeg issue as @morganj said before disappearing from the forums entirely. FFmpeg does not seem to make much sense at all considering that the player works for admin

If you haven’t already, after you made the change, make sure you log into your admin account on the TV before logging into the managed account. That seemed to do something.

No, unfortunately that did not correct anything.
