Android TV causing all devices to buffer, possible culprit found

Server Version#: latest stable
Player Version#: latest beta
Odd issue. My 2017 Nvidia Shield is causing all my devices on the server (around 10) to buffer when it buffers on live tv. It’s been buffering quite a bit on live TV lately. Hardwired or Wi-Fi. Till eventually it just locks up. . My 2015 Nvidia Shield doesn’t have the same issue. Could my Nvidia Shield be going bad?

It’s actually not a new video player issue haha. Sorry had too! It’s something to do with the most recent software versions. I backdated quite a bit which resolved the issue plus resolved the audio issue I have been having for weeks now. Dave wants tuner logs for the audio issue but it’s so hard to get because it’s random when it acts up. Tends to happen at night time when multiple people are on.

Maybe the timing or something is off or it needs a tune-up🤷‍♂️

Little more testing, it is a beta issue. It is not in stable at the moment. So please fix it before releasing to stable:).

I went back to the most recent beta update and have found an issue that’s affecting Android TV devices. When selecting the quick access channel from the home screen and not the guide it doesn’t register on the server which causes issues eventually freezing the Stream and also causing buffering on all devices on the server randomly as seen above. Second thing I found causing issues on the mibox s specifically when turning it off. If you don’t back all the way out to the Android home screen, the Mi box tries to pick up on the same channel and time where it left off when you turned it on. Even if it’s days later. Which once again does not register on the server and causes stability issues. When the mibox gets turned off it shows up on the server as still playing eventually getting paused and Vanishing hours later.

Hey

Thanks for raising, unfortunately am having a very hard time reproducing the buffering all devices issues. Some of what you are mentioning sounds like it fails to send timeline events so I wonder if your have your shield client logs you could share after the problem occurs? and then just to confirm, its after Live TV gets into this frozen state that it starts making your other devices buffer?

And as for the other issue you mentioned, returning to the stream. Is that caused by watching live TV, pressing home on your remote to background the app without closing the player and then opening Plex again hours even days later?

Thanks again for your reporting

Hi, the buffering on all devices seems to start happening when the buffering starts on the shield. It only seems to happen when I select a quick access channel on the homepage and not from the guide. As that channel does not show up on the server under the dashboard. I’ll try to reproduce tonight and send logs to directly.

The problem with the mibox is if you push the back button it just minimize the picture so you have to click the back button again to actually close out the live stream. My older family members are having an issue with doing this. So sometimes they turn the TV off which puts the box into standby without closing the live TV stream. When they go to reopen it the mibox tries to pick up where it left off. Even if hours or days later. Eventually it’ll freeze on the box and they have to back out of the app completely and reopen it. I tried to reproduce it on the Shield but when you shut the TV off it turns the stream off within a couple minutes. This doesn’t happen on the mibox s.

Sorry for the typos I’m half asleep and coffee hasn’t kicked in yet.

Thanks for all this, just replied to your DM
