Android TV no longer plays media

Server Version#: 1.18.6.2350
Player Version#: 8.23.0.27973
I’m using the Android Plex app on my new Android TV (a Sony Bravia).
Until a few days ago, it worked perfectly.
However now, whenever I try to play a TV or Film, I get the message “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again”

I believe that this is a problem with the Android TV app, as the same videos play perfectly well on my laptop and phone (TV, laptop and phone all on my home network, Plex server on a local device on the same network).

The problem came on suddenly (was there an update?) as I was half way through a movie, and I now can’t watch the second half!

I already saw this issue on my AndroidTV, just logout completely from the app, and login again, his should work.
It’s an issue with authentication token.

Thanks, but I’ve tried this, and I’ve tried restarting the app, and I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling it.
The problem persists.

See this post. Check for the error message in the Plex Android TV app log.

Hi, not sure how to access the logs, but reading the thread I think that this is the problem.
Unfortunately, the PMS is on a WD MyCloud box, and you cannot manually update it.
This thread shows a lot of unhappy WD customers!

The support document linked above tells how to pull Android client logs. However, you do not need to bother, as you confirmed you’re using one of the affected versions of PMS and cannot update.

As mentioned above, the workaround is to disable secure communications. Read the post for additional information:

Thanks for all your help — sadly setting the TV plex app to accept insecure connotations does not work.

The solution seems to be to replace the WD myHome Duo, if WD won’t issue an update! Very irritating that WD sold the Duo boasting about this feature, but in fact they don’t support it properly.

You have to change the Plex server as well.

Plex Media Server: Settings → Network → Secure Connections = Disabled.
and
Plex Android app: Settings → Advanced → Allow Insecure Connections = Always

Ah, darn it. Again, you can’t access these setting on the WD myHome Duo. You can only install and uninstall it :frowning:

You certainly can access these settings if you read the previous reply and the link from WDC community forum.

Plex Media Server: Settings → Network → Secure Connections = Disabled
Plex Android app: Settings → Advanced → Allow Insecure Connections = Always

Note 1: You will lose Plex Web access via app.plex.tv, which uses https, when you make this change. You will have to connect to your Plex server via http://nas_ip_address:32400/web.

Note 2: This affects all clients. You will have to allow insecure connections on non-Android clients as well.

Ah, got it – the interface for WD isn’t that obvious
I’ll give it a go…
